Inv4drZm's Build Thread

You know, you can easily pull the steering wheel and line it up that way. Two T-25's (I think) for the air bag and a 19 mm (I think) for the steering wheel nut.

I was thinking the spline shaft that I messed with when I did my body lift could be rotated too.

I don't know where the steering angle sensor is, the steering wheel trick might not work.

I already bought the Moog inner tie rod part. $20 for Moog vs $130 or something for OEM. Might as well try to do it right, probably just as easy as tricking the system.

Once it was finished, my dash was lit up, I guess there is a steering wheel angle sensor, but the alignment felt so good I just kept it. Once I replace that tie rod I will play around with the alignment a little more, seemed like there was more castor on the right than the left. It'll be a good skill to have if I ever get heimed upper control arms.

ZPC should reset the sensor to the "center" position even though you're lying to it. Then reset again after fixing the tie rod. This happened to me after my first alignment after lift, now I also align myself and reset ZPC as last step.

Thanks for the tip, that's what I did to keep ATRAC working on our trip this weekend. I'll replace the tie rod later.

The Creepy Crawl this year was really fun. I don't really like the Kansas Rocks park as much as the Tuttle park, more trees to hit, less rocky ledges to play on, more slippery mud hills to climb. But all-in-all, we met a new Yota group there and I saw 2 other 4th gens so that was cool.

That white sure is bright:

The FJ's used their rear lockers to climb up onto the side of a slippery hill climb to narrowly avoid sliding into a tree near the top. I couldn't get up onto the side of the ruts so I compensated by using the V8. Only kissed the tree a little... but I made it up.

Crazy rock bouncer with bypasses:

Maybe around 100 offroad vehicles this year. Most trucks were trailered on 40's or bigger so our late model Yotas were by far the exception.

I'm not generally a Jeep fan but I have a soft spot for the old Jeep trucks. Maybe I'll build one some day.

My brother and I's dad bought a Corvette Z06 last week, his long-time dream car. So of course we had to take pictures with it while we were staying at his house. Its a bit faster than my truck. More of a track car than a street car but fun nonetheless.

Back at home:

Might be able to buff some of it out:

75 degrees out today, found time to finally detail my truck again. Got a ton of overspray over the front hood and fenders when spray painting my rear bumper in front of my truck. Lots of clay bar took the overspray off.

The recent tree scrape came all the way off. Only 2 small creases in the door, only noticeable to me.

To be continued tomorrow. I have some CQuartz ceramic paint protection I want to finish with. Might need to pick up new headlights after this, mine look terrible, the clear coat I put on is peeling.

After 5 minutes:

Your truck has got to be one of the best mechanically built and maintained 4th gens I've seen. I'm honestly surprised you're still rocking the 03'-05' reflector headlights still.... can't wait to see what you come up with if you decide on a 06'+ projector retrofit :hungry:

Ceramic coating everywhere, used the whole 30ml bottle. Did the roof too while the rack is off. My truck is too bright to look at, I might be a hazard on the road. And I actually wiped down the wheels and shined the tires a little so I went overboard this weekend for sure, I may never wheel again LOL.

Like I said I need new headlights, don't look too close.

Thanks for the compliment!

Honestly I'm not into lights that much, and my LED's are good enough for what I do.

While there are certainly some cool light setups, they are way over my head, and I think I'll be happy with just an 06'-09' headlight with drop-in bulbs, though I like the look of the 03'-05'.

My stupid little LED turn signal strips zip-tied to the lower pod lights have been hanging on for over a year now. I would like to ditch those and integrate the turn signals into the headlights. I just want a relatively cheap and reliable setup.

The rain today is beading up quite nicely after the ceramic coat.

A hint for one of my next mods, I've been driving around without a gauge cluster for a couple days.

I'll help that hint! If you were closer we could have swapped jobs. Paint Correcting and ______! UPS notice of delivery today!

I did not realize you could drive without the gauge cluster. For some reason, I thought it had to be there for the vehicle to run. I may have to do this now . . .

You can go without cluster and hvac! Make sure you have gas, and set the hvac to a safe temp and need! Not 100% sure, but I don’t think miles you drive count while the cluster is out!

I'll be happy when I get the AC controls shipped back, I left it on 75 at low speed which was a poor choice. This is what it looked like yesterday and today had a high of 33 and windy. I think 'detailing weather' is over so I'm glad I got that done 2wks ago when it was nice out.

Got it all reinstalled. Looks awesome of course! Thanks S p a r k y!

I'll be buying a new gauge lens and will put some XPEL clear wrap on it to keep it from getting scratched, then swap it with my old one.

Nicely done!

You know how I said I would stop wheeling after I just detailed my truck? I caved in this weekend...

Another cold day at Tuttle but we made it out alive.
