iPhone 13 and entune (public service announcement)

Your new iPhone might make your entunes/radio crash and reboot itself every 3 minutes nonstop. I couldn't even make it to the menu's. I think this was a issue on previous phones and required a entune firmware update to fix.

Anyways, if this happens to you and to make your radio functional again:


1. unpair your 4runner from your iPhone 13 first, and delete it from the iPhone menu.
2. turn off your iPhone 13 completely. If you don't shut your phone off, entunes will continue to look for it passively.
3. disconnect your negative car battery and wait 15 min. This resets your entunes so it stops looking for your iPhone.
4. connect negative car battery
5. turn on radio, go to 4runner blue tooth menu and unpair your iPhone 13, and delete it from the menu
6. turn on your iPhone.
7. do not pair your iPhone.
8. your radio, and your buttons should all be working again.

I dunno if its just my vehicle which is a 2016 and the fact that i rarely buy new phones or update entunes..it could be just my luck, but hopefully, Ya'll will find this helpful instead of doing what i did, spend 2 days checking fuses, ground wires, and going over all the wiring harnesses we add to accessorize our accessories.

Is this failure during wired CarPlay only? Can we still connect via generic Bluetooth streaming media?

Apparently, its due to blue tooth.

Not sure, if its due to me having a older vehicle with an older entunes with out of date firmware. I'm not sure. My buddy thinks its a random, isolated event. He states that it has happened to him in the past with his iPhone 12, but was able to resync/pair it after a hard reset (disconnect car battery) and the rebooting never happened again.

I think what happened was: a iPhone firmware update occurred through the phone network while the phone was still connected via bluetooth to entunes while i was driving, and that was enough to crash the system. It would be a random isolated event, because how often would i be upgrading firmware while driving. Outcome: don't do iPhone firmware updates in future while the iPhone is connected to entunes..

I'm going to give it a few days before i try to pair/sync it back to entunes. I have to many variables that I want to make sure isn't the source of this (front camera, alarm, welding work, front locker/wiring harness, dual battery setup, etc).

FWIW I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max but I have the latest iOS release (15.0.2) that the 13’s can get. No issues here.

I am currently using a wireless CarPlay adapter that I’ve enjoyed since having bought it back when I was on OS 14.8.

If the software is the same, I wonder if there’s something in the hardware that is causing this issue?

yeah man, i think its one of those....1 in a million things where you have to be doing the wrong thing at the wrong time for the software glitch to occur. Too much PRON watching while driving....hahaha


Any-who if it happens at least this will save you from going to the dealer or be like me waste 2 days trying to chase down electronic gremlins.
