I know next to nothing about these phones, but my wife is thinking about getting the HTC EVO 4G thingy from Sprint. I am really interested to see a comparison of this new Iphone and the HTC 4G. One of my brother is switching from Iphone to HTC 4G because of the 4G promise and the fact that the HTC can serve as a modem/router or something for multiple computers. But, then i read that HTC battery life sucks when in 4G mode.

So, i can't wait to see actual comparison b/w these two phones. For me, i will stick to my old reliable, Sanyo SCP7050...an ancient military-spec phone.
 
i might get one. i havent decided yet. the beef i have with my 3Gs is no zoom or flash. they fixed the flash and added a 5mp camera. still no zoom. but you can now stream netflix??
i had to jailbreak mine to get all of the cool apps and multi tasking so im curious if the OS4 will fix these things. i guess i will wait and see.
AT&T will let you bend your contract to upgrade early so thats good.

The iPhone 4 has a second front-facing camera that can be used for video chats, something many users had hoped for in the new device. It also will have high-definition video recording at 720p, something that had been talked about as a way to further distinguish Apple's phone from others.

The camera on the back of the new phone is 5 megapixels, with a 5X digital zoom, and has an LED flash. It also has a micro-SIM tray
 
i was just looking at it and want to pre-order but wat im wondering is how much the cost will be without the 2 year upgrade. I have only had my fone for about 9 month and so im hoping it is 300-400 and i might pick it up or just wait and spend the money on more mods for the runner.
 
I'm getting this phone, my sister is getting it for me as a graduation gift, it took me a week to think it over to get, i don't like to waste money and so i gotta think this stuff over even if it isnt my money.

but, my question is..

can I still keep my unlimited data plan over to the Iphone?

I think so, ATT did announce the end of unlimited data plans but said customers who have it now can choose to keep it after upgrading. I know that is the case for Iphone 3g customers but assume it would be the same for Blackberry users, ATT is evil though so who knows...
I'm getting one, I've been using my 5 year old razor for like a year now after running over my other phone and really need a new one!
 
I have resisted the iPhone urge so far, but this one looks pretty sweet. I like the longer batt. life, sharper display, apps and the $15 data plan since I didnt want to spend $30 for the unlimited. Thai, if you go to cnet they do a comp of the iPhone 4 and HTC 4g.
 
I've had the original iPhone, the 3G and now the 3Gs.

Never again will I have a phone other than an Apple iPhone.
I have another 2 years till my upgrade, though, so no iPhone4 for me any time soon...

4G service is still in the development stage. It offers spotty service at best in a select amount of cities across only a handful of states.

After speaking with someone who works on keeping these networks on line for us, the reality is that 4G is nowhere near as ready as Sprint has been claiming (as expected with most marketing ploys from companies). They are having to go back and fix the 2G network, and they are still working on the 3G network which is still technically new. A fully functional 4G network won't be up any time soon. (In a few years maybe?)

That being said, a buddy of mine was telling me about the HTC, and that it looks like it could be a contender with the iPhone.. Unlike the Droid, which is just a fad.

The iPhone 4 will allow tethering as well.

Without a contract, the iPhone 4 is set at $599 and $699 for the 16GB and 32GB, respectively.

X2, except I never got the 3Gs. It wasn't enough of an improvement over the 3G and now I am glad I waited.

My S is 1000x faster than my old 3G. That alone was enough reason to buy it. You'll think your 3G is lightning fast, until you go play with an S. But good idea on waiting...now you'll have a 4 and I'll still be stuck with my 3Gs lol

Thanks for the info...we're probably gonna wait. I also hear that 4G is very limited. Oh well...these new phones sure look great!!

Why Can't I Apple....?

Set my OWN MP3 as the ringtone?

Why do I have to select from these 5 ghey (imo) text sounds?

Have shitty speaker quality?

Have low ear piece volume.

All these issues were apparent on the 2G, OS1, let's see if any of them have changed.
 
HTC Evo for me. Just switched from AT&T and I couldn't be happier. Apple is too stuffy imo; hardly permits any user configuration. With Sprint, I pay less per/mo, I get more minutes, unlimited data for me and the wife, and I can do whatever the hell I want to my phone, with ease. One feature I really like is the solid aluminum kickstand on the back of the Evo. It gives you the support function of a cradle/dock to watch movies, or you can use it to prop the phone up as an alarm clock. It's perfect for my desk at work. Multitasking is disgustingly powerful. Simultaneously, I was able to stream Youtube and Pandora, played music from SD card, played a heavily animated game and tethered to my pc and streamed Youtube from pc. Evo did all of this with ease and I wasn't even on their 4G network. (still hard to believe that this thing is faster than almost all of the computers I used through school). Maybe I'm a fanboy, or maybe this is just the first new phone I've had in 4 years. Either way, I'm very pleased. IF I do have one gripe, it's the battery life, BUT the upcoming Android 2.2 release is slated to cure that. Again, it could just be because I haven't owned a power hungry phone in the past, but I've read reports of other Evo owners having similar issues, so who knows?

I used to own an :AK47: iPod Touch :gun4:(for a couple weeks). Part of the reason I stay away from Apple is because I can't stand the iTunes software. Jailbreaking and working around the iPhone isn't really difficult, but the number of steps involved is much more work than I'd like to deal with on a regular basis. Android, on the other hand, seems to encourage customization and user control by permitting users to tweak ALL of the settings. The only negative thing I've experienced with the Evo is the battery life, and that's certainly not enough to be a deal breaker, especially with the updates rolling out soon.

Did I convince anyone to snag an Evo? :trophy:

Um, you can? And you can even choose exactly which part of the song you want to use (up to 30 seconds). You've always been able to do that.

It's not that bad actually, especially for a phone. If you want great sound quality, no phone offers it. Some are better than others, but you need external speakers or a sound system to hook it up to such as in your vehicle or house.

Why not just adjust the volume....?
 
Not me. My Droid still offers plenty. I don't see how this makes the iPhone better than the Droid. Plus Verizon is much better than AT&T.
 
That's the thing also, ATT coverage where i work is nearly non-existent. In big cities, ATT is better. Sprint seems to be way more consistent with signal reception here and around Houston area.
 
I love my iPhone 3G, but I am not eligible for an upgrade for another 8 months or so. So I won't be getting a new one just yet.
