iPhone 5 Info Thread

Not iPhone 5 related but iPhone related. Was playing with my wife's phone and she has the exact same 4S I have purchased same day. I am running jailbroken iOS 5.1.1 with mobile substrates running and she is on a stock iOS6 and my phone is noticeably faster still despite being jailbroken which usually slows the phone down.

I am not sure what's causing the slowdown, iOS6 should be no problem or the 4/4S phones. I don't even have much memory available at any given time. My phone idles at 370mb but when I am running phone, mail (which can't be turned off), messages, tapatalk and Facebook I average 200mb. I normally leave these apps running and close all others but still my phone is faster.

I am guessing she has some old apps not optimized for iOS6 causing some kind of memory leakage. I am sure this wouldn't happen on an Android device...:sarcasm:
 
It is awfully strange that you guys think that it is mandatory to read this thread. It is NOT. Move on.

Google search and browsing some iOS/Mac forums it seems it's more common on iOS6 than older operating systems. Most people associate it with the way the phone interprets SMS coding and will **** out an error if someone you have blocked text or calls you. I don't have anyone blocked on my account.

I can say though with I guess pride that in all my years of iPhone ownership dating back to the release of the 3G this is only the second iOS related error I have ever received. The first being Springboard crashing once and reloading in safe mode (caused by one of my mobile substrates)

This protector is very much like PowerSupport one...it is a dry application protector (unlike Zagg and others that requires water/solution). Some like dry application because you have less risk of water getting into the phone speaker.

The nice thing about this protector is that it has a true oleophobic coating. (PowerSupport claims to have one too, but i was far from impress with it!) See the videos:

I have been trying my darnest to get rid of the Otterbox Defender because of its bulk. But, i am starting to find another positive. In addition to the slight (but very noticeable) cell signal improvement with it, the Defender also slightly improves WiFi reception!! I am not kidding you...and i have no stock in Otterbox! WTF?! I am really stump. Compared with a TPU case and at the border of WiFi coverage, my Otterbox is able to pull and hold Wifi signal better than my TPU case.

I don't understand this at all! It does not make sense in my head. But, despite my repeated efforts to throw my Otterbox away, i just can't. Hell, i even got Airave from Sprint in my house. Airave connects to your Wifi (and has GPS sensor). With it ON, the unit becomes a portable cell tower INSIDE your house. It is working well...so, i had hoped that this device would make my Otterbox less important since cell reception now is plentiful in my house. So, i went with TPU case........until i found the Wifi slight advantage with the Defender case. :(

I agree. Unfortunately, my Seidio Active case is now somewhere in my house unused. It made my cell reception in my house worst...worst than naked iphone. :( I just wished that it would work well because Seidio makes good quality products. I particularly like the Surface w/ stand case and holster. But, alas, it affected my cell signal too much. :(

iOS 6.0.1 is out. I am updating now.

iOS 6.0.1 is now available to download through the system's Software Update, or through iTunes. The full list of changes included in the software, according to Apple, are:

•Fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air.

•Fixes a bug where horizontal lines may be displayed across the keyboard.

•Fixes an issue that could cause camera flash to not go off.

•Improves reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks.

•Resolves an issue that prevents iPhone from using the cellular network in some instances.

•Consolidated the Use Cellular Data switch for iTunes Match.

•Fixes a Passcode Lock bug which sometimes allowed access to Passbook pass details from lock screen.

•Fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings.

(It has iPhone 5 in the benchmarks to compare.) Basically, iPhone 5 stands its ground but the iPad 4 is numero uno in most GPU stuff. iPad 4 has A6X chip (4 GPU PowerVR SGX 554 cores) in it with enhanced graphics to go along with the screen resolution.

Nexus 10 tablet did OK for tablets...losing to iPad 4 in everything. It has the latest dual-core 1.7GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Dual CPU, quad-core Mali-T604 GPU and 2GB of RAM. iPad 4 beat it easily. The biggest competitor to iPad 4 is actually the iPhone 5! :)

Even worst, LG Nexus 4 is a huge disappointment in these benchmarks despite having the latest greatest Qualcomm S4 PRO chip (quad cores). The iPhone 5 A6 blows it out of the water easily in every category!!

Weird. I wonder if Android 4.2 (Jellybean) is not optimized yet...because something is really wrong here!! There is something wrong here even if you take into account the bigger screen (LG N4) or the higher resolution (N10). I expected these newest Android to be competitive with Apple products...but this is a killing beyond imagination!
