iPhone 5 Info Thread

Rumor has it that Apple will do a refresh on the iPhone early next year: http://mashable.com/2012/11/12/apple-iphone-5s/

I assume that Apple will be doing what they did to iPad...upgrading some internals...maybe A6 tweaked, NFC, and better camera?? But, apparently, the source of the rumor has been wrong in the past...so, take it with a grain of salt!

I saw this and thought the improvement can't be ENOUGH to justify an upgrade. I have a 3GS and its speaker no longer works (speakerphone curiously does, though). Using it as an iPod works intermittently (you have to fiddle with the headphone jack and even then sometimes doesn't work) so that's another fail. I'm heading to South America for a month and a half and plan on taking lots of pictures/listening to music/podcasts. My 3GS works fine, but it's very annoying. I think I may order a 5 in the coming days..................... 15 day waiting period apparently.........

thanks for keeping this thread updated with cool stuff......

I would imagine a modifed A6 processor, NFC, and possibly better camera.

The one that i worry about is that you keep on hearing about how hard it is to make the iPhone 5. And this has led to production shortages. I wonder if the iPhone 5S will be a "cheapened" design so that production will be faster (aka easier to make)??

And as an aside, the iPhone 5 is the last iPhone Steve Jobs designed...so, that is worth something, isn't it? :D

:wow2: Are you hard on your phones? I've had a 3GS, 4, and now a 5 and never had those kinds of hardware issues. My wife is less careful with hers (keeps dropping it on tile floors... wtf) and she still has yet to break one, knock on wood, or travertine I guess.

If you are in search of a 5, check local store availability from their online store after 10PM and you may be able to pick it up the next day. I was able to get mine that way. Unfortunately I decided to order my wife's phone (she wanted white) and that one is a 3 week wait. What's super annoying is they have had it in stock for almost two weeks at a store a couple of hours away. I don't know why they won't ship them when they are so backlogged.

Well, everyone knows when you get another smart phone (especially an iphone), you automatically extend your contract with AT&T another 2 years. Within these 2 years (could be less, maybe 1.5 years??), you can upgrade to a newer phone, but you must pay a penalty. Screw that.

As far as availability, apart from my pending trip, there really isn't a rush for me to get one. If I find one in stock at the local apple store or AT&T store, great, I'll pick one up (white 64gb). If not, well, that's ok. BTW, thanks for the advice, I'll try that if I don't find anything. :thumb3:

Yeah, I generally take care of my stuff, but lately my phone has been taking a clobbering. Especially with my baby daughter constantly dropping it and chewing on it. hahahhaaha. Anyway, the speaker not working stems from me accidently dropping it in a bucket of wet clothes with water in it. The phone fell on top, got very wet, but was not submerged.

IPHONE 5 baby! goodbye 3GS....... :(

Sooooooo then, I went to the mall today with my family. Wifey usually likes to look at clothes and stuff. This is when baby and myself take off in the other direction ( :) ) . Headed to the apple store and totally didn't expect them to have them in stock, but they did. So, I picked one up. I'll be configuring it tonight (I'm actually going to synch my music to this phone, urrghhh). Between being on itunes/watching tv/t4r.org, this might take a while..............

Now on to pick a case.......... thanks Thai! (for this and the case thread......... but I feel like I'm cheating, as in, I feel like I'm copying another person's homework........ hahah)

Congrats on your iphone! Remember, if you back up your old iphone to iTunes, then just restore the new phone to that old iphone. This way, your new iphone will have all your specific settings and apps!

For me, because I live on the fringe of cell towers, I have otterbox defender for reception. I do like it a lot. It does have its flaws but the best case I can find IMO. And I tried a million of them! :D

Pics are worth a million words:

"Let us explain what's going on - the second set of images is of white text on a black background with lines 1px thick. To make white you need all three of the primary colors (Red, Green and Blue), but since the PenTile only has two of those for each pixel it needs to "borrow" subpixels from neighboring pixels.

So, a 1px thick white line on the Galaxy S III becomes 1.5 px wide (three sub-pixels total, each pixel is 2 sub-pixels wide). This is an extreme example, of course, but it does affect sharpness in real-life usage too."

This may be shocking (to few), but here is yet another phone with camera flare:

LG Nexus...yes, even Google phones have it!

small quibble...........

What I do find annoying with my phone is that I can't erase all the photos that I took with my 3GS. They got installed onto my 5. Didn't want that to happen. Anyway, without an app (can't remember which one), you can't "mass delete" pics on the 5. I have about 3K photos on it............ urghhhh. Gonna have to one by one (so to speak).

LOVE the phone. I was looking into getting a lifeproof case, but they are very pricey (and out of stock).

If you have the phone connected via USB you can search the phone like an external hard drive and there is a folder called DCIM or something along those lines and it's all the photos and videos on the phone. Delete them from the folder and then eject your phone and it should delete the photos on your phone.

Depends what you mean by one by one. If you hit the 'edit' then you can check off as many of the thumbnails you want then just hit the delete button once, all gone. You do not have to select the image, open, and then delete, that would take a long time. I go through and delete a good 20 or 30 in one quick session every week or so to keep them down.

I hear ya, even if I check off all the pics on the screen, its still gonna take time to delete them all (over 3000 pics). I just don't want my new pics taken with the 5 to be mixed up with the old photos....... i tried creating a new folder, but all pictures taken are (by default) put into the "camera roll" folder........

Gonna try what rebel suggested, I'll report back later...........

Don't worry about messing anything up, if you're on PC that is the only folder that has anything in it. The computer won't read any of the data and the root folders all have passwords on them.

Like I said I think it's named DCIM or it was on the 3GS I had. I now do everything wirelessly over wifi with cyber duck and mobile terminal.

Link: The Nexus’ fatal flaw: Google customer support

Unfortunately, unlike Apple, Google customer service just stinks! I know this semi-firsthand because my brother ordered the Nexus 4...and absolutely no response from Google when he will get the phone. He ordered it successfully at launch...nothing from Google. :(

See the comments below that article...not good for Google!
