iPhone 5 Info Thread

Otterbox Defender, white for Iphone5 ordered. $25 (retail $50) on Amazon.

Not waterproof, but I'm not paying $89 (not even available on their website) for lifeproof.

What I do find annoying with my phone is that I can't erase all the photos that I took with my 3GS. They got installed onto my 5. Didn't want that to happen. Anyway, without an app (can't remember which one), you can't "mass delete" pics on the 5. I have about 3K photos on it............ urghhhh. Gonna have to one by one (so to speak).

LOVE the phone. I was looking into getting a lifeproof case, but they are very pricey (and out of stock).

might be easiest to simply erase them all, organize them on your computer and then copy over the ones you want in a separate folder.

Settings->General->Usage

Photos&Camera should appear on the list. You can then swipe to the right on the name of the folder you want to delete and hit the 'delete' button to erase them all.

Thai, how did you end up liking that Green onion screen protector?

Well, I dropped my Iphone4 on the garage floor last night, screen down, smashed to smithereens. Very disappointed. Going to grab an Iphone5 tonight after work.

Thanksgiving Gods are trying to tell you something! :D

Did you pick one up? I would imagine that they are still in short supply.

What is interesting is that the purple flare effect got so much (bad) press for the iPhone 5, but when Nexus 4 has the same (if not worst) flare, you just don't hear anything about it! No Android blogs chomping away at the "defect." There was maybe one or two article about it initially...but died within 24-36 hours. Hmmm, kinda weird. In addition, despite GS3 having flaring (different color shade tho), you also don't hear anything about it. I guess that is the price Apple has to pay for being popular and head of the class...kinda like Toyota. :thumb3:

BTW, this has to be a classic response from Android crowd regarding Nexus 4 flare:

"Nexus 4 is still much better than iPhone 5 even with this purple flare. Camera is not the best feature of Nexus 4 anyway." :D

Thanksgiving was over a month ago already, lol!

Ya I got 2 black 16GB iphone5's last night (one for the wife as well), to be honest most of the changes that come with ios6 I'm not a fan of, but I'll get used to them.

What carrier are you on? Wow, got 2 iP5's?! Supply must finally be catching up. For me, i did not notice much change in the feel of iOS6...but i do really like the Do Not Disturb function.

I'm with Rogers for a carrier, but I got the phones right from the Apple store in the mall, they were able to activate them for me and everything, and this was a hardware upgrade through my carrier. I'm not sure what stock is like at any of the wireless carrier's stores/kiosks, didn't check.

OK, this has happend 2x now while walking my dog and I've had the phone since Thursday evening, the aluminum back on the iphone5 is too efficient a heatsink, the phone gets too cold, and shuts off! When I get back to the vehicle, it saps all the heat out of my hands to get it back up to useable temp, and the battery reads 65+% both times! It's not even that cold out yet, winter is just starting, it was like -10C when this happened, and the phone was in my winter coat pocket.

I'm betting some sort of case would help, I currently have only screen protectors front & back while I figure out what I want for a case. Any suggestions for a case that keeps the phone slim, provides some drop protection, and (a reach here I know) provides some insulation so I can listen to music while walking my dog without the damn thing shutting down due to cold? This was never an issue with my iphone4 with glass front & back.

IANB: Where do you normally keep your phone? I have a holster that is on my belt so it is consistently "warm". I'm used to this and having my phone in my winter pocket is odd (to me). Dumb remedy, but it could work. Never head of cold effecting the iphone :(

The only time I'm outside in the cold for an extended period of time (longer than walking to/from the truck kind of thing) would be when I'm on a dog walk or shovelling snow, and if I'm listening to something with earphones, it works best with the phone in the chest pocket of my jacket. This is where it was the 1st time it died on me, the 2nd time I had it in the front pocket where you would stick your hands at the bottom of the jacket. I do have another pocket I'm going to try, it's behind the chest pocket and actually has the routing for earbuds, but I don't think it's going to be enough without some sort of case to slow the heat transfer.

During summer, or when I don't have my coat on, I would keep the phone in the front pocket of my pants. I don't like having it there when I'm being active, it binds and gets in the way.

Get rid of your dog.........or take your iPhone to Apple and get it diagnosed. In all likelihood, they will give you a new iPhone. Something does not sound right about your iPhone.

If a case is what you want, then you may have to get something with a silicone sleeve...because a regular plastic case won't help much from what you're telling me. Casemate Tough is really nice...but may not be insulating enough. Otterbox Commuter is another, but bulkier...which maybe what you need.

Link: NPD Predicts In-Cell Tech Boom, Led by Apple | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

"Still, Apple's hold on the in-cell touch LCD technology is pretty strong. LG Display, Japan Display Inc., and Sharp make the iPhone 5's 4-inch, 1,136-by-640 display, but they are not allowed to sell the LCD panels to other companies."

That's weird because the LG Nexus 4 has a similar technology. I guess since LG makes their own phone, they are allowed to use this tech on their phones. This explains why HTC DNA, for example, does not sport this in-cell technology. I wonder if Galaxy S4 will have it since Samsung has not mentioned much about this technology...and wonder if this tech is compatible with Super AMOLED screens from Samsung. (Samsung is not interested in LCDs for their phones.)

Love it as a case, but I HATE the belt clip it comes with. Very difficult to clip and unclip your phone. Gonna look for a "standard" belt horizontal holder. Hopefully I can find one that can accommodate the phone with the Otterbox case on. FYI

Just thought I would let everyone know that iTunes 11 was finally released today! So far I like it much better. The 'up next' feature for music is nice and something I've been wanting them to implement forever.

I like it...it is prettier...but i kinda like the old version where you can see everything on one screen.
