Cookieroe, i would also be careful with Defender for another reason. I have read (but not experienced) that the front piece can scratch the iphone screen!! This is from a few reviews...but enough of them that i read to be concerned about.
My theory of why this is happening is twofold. One, the front piece of the case has ridges that press against the screen. Two, the case mold is too big for iPhone 5...so, your phone actually slides around in it. Over time, these two factors start to eat away at the screen (and oleophobic coating).
I have not experienced this because (probably) i use an aftermarket screen protector instead of the one that comes attached to the case. The aftermarket protector protects the screen against the front piece of the case. In addition, i "cushioned" the 4 corners so that my iPHone fits tight within the case.
The case itself, after the above mods, is pretty good. And as noted above, it does provide optimal cell signal and Wifi too. The holster is not a great design IMO. Hopefully, the eBay leather pouch above will be a good fit.

It is a dry application protector. Invisibleshield HD protector (wet application) was OK...it ended up having small pitting that won't go away. I could have gotten Invisibleshield to replace it, but what's the point...it will only come back in a few months. Belkin protector so far seems excellent...very clear (true glass-like)...will see how it holds up over time.

Thanks for the warning. I've haven't seen those warning on forums. Anyway, I took my case off. As you know, these cases are a 3 piece item. The two plastic covers for the front and back snap on, and the 3rd piece is a rubber ring that, wraps around the sides of the case covering the buttons and have neat "fold away" plugs for the earphone, lightning plug and silent on/off switch.
I found that: YES, the phone DOES dance A TINY bit when laying on the back cover. When the top cover snaps on, however, this "dancing" can not be reproduced. I rubbed my finger against the screen trying to make the phone move, but it didn't. The rubber ring appears to make the fitting even tighter as it is a PITA to uninstall. I'm the kind of person to install something (mods to my 4Runner and other things) and leave it alone. If someone constantly fidgets with the case (taking it apart frequently), then, yes, I can see the "dancing" of the phone becoming a problem. Plastic/rubber does expand over time, so this is plausible.
What material do you use to "cushion" the phone inside the case?
I'll include pictures later tonight of the backside of the front cover that touches the screen. I really don't see where plastic (not the clear screen protector) would scratch the surface.

For me, everytime that i plug and unplug the USB cord, i can feel the phone move. Easiest way is to put the phone into the back hard plastic cover and move your phone. You should have some movement. I have had 2 Defenders (early & late release) and RealTree do that. I use anything really for cushioning...electrical tape folded in two, paper, etc.. All work well. The main thing is to avoid movement within the case because if sand particles etc. get in there, the rubbing will cause damage to case and/or screen. Remember, although your screen is Gorilla Glass 2, it can still scratch easily with sand particles rubbing against it. (I wish that future screens be made of sapphire!)

They do but you still have vertical movement of the iPhone within.

The upper and lower raised lip where the screen protector attaches to are the culprit. I have aftermarket screen protector on my iPhone. After having the case on, there are deep indentations left over by these lips. Yes, although the lips are flat raised areas, they dig into the screen (or aftermarket screen protector). So, although i was skeptical at first reading the reviews, i am starting to believe them. Imagine the repeated slide up and down of the phone inside the case (as when charging your phone) against these lips.
Cookieroe, do you have the watermark effect with the attached stock screen protector? I had it and thus another reason to get rid of the stock protector.
BTW, so far, i am quite impress with the Belkin screen protector noted above! Super clear...about as good (and smooth) as iphone glass. It does not clear fingerprint as well as iPhone screen, but it looks invisible.
As of now, i am using the Belkin screen protector with Otterbox Defender RealTree Camo. I took out the stock protector. As much as i hate the bulk of the case and ****ty holster (replaced with leather pouch holster), i am stuck with the Defender because it gives me the best cell signal and maintains Wifi signal too. No case i have found to be good in these two areas.

I haven't noticed any watermark affect (yet). You have me thinking of removing the clear protector (that is attached to the defender case) and putting on a Belkin clear protector. There is a kiosk right outside the Apple Store in the King of Prussia mall, they install a clear film that is said to be scratch proof, yadda yadda for $20 (screen only). Can't remember the name of the product............

Zagg HD is what i had. Although it is decent, it gets eaten up by the Defender's front cover! The indents don't go away. In addition, recently, i have found the Zagg HD to have random "pitting" that also don't go away. From reading the web, it seems like Zagg went thin when creating the HD version...so, it easily gets nicked and banged up. The regular Zagg is thicker, but has horrible orange peel effect and is not smooth to slide your finger. (Zagg HD is better, but not nearly as crystal clear as the Belkin.) In addition, after seeing a million wet installs on my iPhones, i am starting to hate the process...too easy to get solution into the speaker hole! And the installer become more reckless everytime i get it installed. So, yeah, i am a dry installation guy now...so that i can be my anal self at home and take my time to perfect the install.
Target is the only place that sells the Belkin's screen protector (other than the web). Walmart sells Wrapsol crap. Tried that...horrible ****!

This picture is from Lumia 920, as taken by CNET. As you can see, even the PureView camera from the 920 has flaring under certain circumstances. Different color, but flaring nonetheless! Flaring is ONLY an issue on iPhones because...well, people analyze the hell out of it and find flaws where ever they can. Again, like Toyota, everything gets blown out of proportions for Apple!

Ok, just got it today. eBayer sent it super slow snail mail!
Anyway, the holster is pretty good quality. The Defender fit really tight in there. I did have to stretch the "hinges" a little to exercise them. After that, the fit was better...doable, but kinda tight.

My defender holster should be in by tomorrow. Can't wait! Anyway, I got the Belkin clear screen protector (TruClear). I didn't get the "smudge proof" b/c it did say on the box that is wasn't clear (can't remember what term they used).
BUT, I have noticed very slow internet (and apps) connections, then I found this:

Goddamnit!!!! Gonna head to the Apple Store and see what/if any rememdy they have. I leave for south america in 2 weeks, I don't want to get stuck with my 5 (if it's defective....... I really hope it's a softward issue).

I had issues with mine, where my old Android phone was fine. If I was next to or very close to the router my WiFi was fine, 20MB+, but a short walk away would knock it down to 2MB or 3MB, horrible. *using a WNDR4000.
Just bought a R6300 - much better, no issues. Same security settings.

What did you do to remedy the iphone? For me, I was about 4 ft away from my wireless router and phone still was extremely slow (my desktop is about 10 ft away and is lightning fast). BT was/is off, i even tried with airplane mode, but no improvement in speed. Weird.
