iPhone 5 Info Thread

....Like I said I think it's named DCIM or it was on the 3GS I had. I now do everything wirelessly over wifi with cyber duck and mobile terminal.

Thanks Rebel, tried that on my PC and it worked like a charm. I had roughly 3000 images/vids and the phone divided them up on 5 folders. I erased them all. Thanks!

Well, for those following my quest for the perfect case and holster...i don't have good news. The Belkin screen protector can be scratched fairly easily with daily cleaning (of the screen with towels or shirt). That is probably why Belkin gives you 3 protectors in the package.

The eBay leather pouch (by Reiko) is very nice but too tight for the Defender (and Commuter for that matter). The constant rubbing of the case and the inner surface of the leather holster when taking it out causes premature wear on the silicone of the cases (both Defender and Commuter).

So, right now, my screen is naked...and i may leave it that way...praying that Gorilla Glass 2 is everything it promises to be! I am back to the Otterbox Defender holster with my Defender case. For whatever reason, the Defender case ever so slightly outdoes the Commuter in Wifi speeds at extreme low signal areas. Defender is able to pick up weak Wifi signal slightly better and provides slightly better Wifi speeds.

I agree, the fleabay leather pouch is nice enough. Fit is tight (not too tight) with the defender installed. Regarding the wear on the rubber (silicone) portion of the defender is valid, but I'd rather a "tight" fit than a loose one. I guess a final verdict will come with time. I'll report when I see noticeable wear. I took your advice and cut out a piece of the thin cardboard from the Belkin screen protector box it came in. Fits like a charm, it's thick enough to stop the phone from moving while in the case.

WiFi is good with my replacement phone. I travel this weekend so I hope there are no hiccups with it................

Its about time!! (Google maps app)

Google's maps app back on iPhone - Dec. 12, 2012

A few days ago, I needed directions on how to get to a certain place (I wasn't in my cars/truck) so I went into iphone's safari to look at google maps. Sure enough, I get a prompt to "have it displayed" or something like that onto my phone. I pressed "yes" and an apps icon appeared on the screen. I didn't have to go thru Itunes which was really cool. (I hate the new itunes, I still can't get used to it). Anyway, thought I'd share.......

EDIT: The way I mentioned above appears to be a "different" version of Google Maps, as I've found the actual app on the itunes store. Still Free, but the app icon from the itunes store is colored and the app logo from how I got it above is not, it is all gray.

Yea, its a great update too. Offers more features than the old google maps app did with the two finger tilt and rotate.

For me, i have both on my phone. However, i still use Apple Maps more simply because i can use across the iphone. For example, if i search for something with Safari, then i can just go to iMaps directly for directions. In addition, with Google, you don't have access to your Contacts. However, i use Google to double check iMaps. :D

Well, iMaps is out. I have deleted it from my homescreen. I tested both today. On my Subaru, Apple's iMaps will only give voice commands:

1. Thru iPhone speakers if not connected to anything; or

2. Thru car speakers via USB...but ONLY if i am listening to music on my iPhone; otherwise with AM radio or radio off, no voice guidance.

And since navigation eats battery, i want USB connection. But, then, my radio has to ON and i have to be listening to music on my iPhone.

Google Maps is quite amazing! The app itself is excellent. But, it gives voice guidance via BLUETOOTH!! So, yeah, as long as i am connected to BT system in my car, the voice guidance will come on to give directions, then go off. Very nice. I don't have to have my radio on. And if my radio is on (listening to CDs, AM, iPhone, etc.), then BT voice guidance take priority with an upcoming turn...then it goes off and music back on.

I am glad that Tim Cook shook up the iMaps division because Google Maps app blows iMaps out of the water...and surprisingly, not just in database, but in user friendliness!!

I guess I'll have to go check it out then...maybe after I update. I'm still on 5.0.1 jail break. Guess I'll check it on my wife's phone for now

Link: iPhone 5 Sales Expected To Top 45 Million Units In Q4 As Production Rates Improve [Rumor] | Cult of Mac

"Suppliers now expect the Cupertino company to sell 45 million iPhone 5 units during the fourth quarter alone."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This equates to nearly half a million iPhone 5 buyers every day (489,130 exactly). This is an impressive figure when you consider that Samsung sells only 190,000 Samsung Galaxy S3 units per day.

Still loving my iPhone (got it the day released). The addition of the new google maps finalized the package to perfection now. Technology will always leap frog as to who has the best what, but I will be happy with this phone for a long time.

Agree. Google Maps has made iPhone 5 perfect. And with my new Sony RX100 camera providing me the camera itch, i believe that I will skip my next upgrade cycle next year (on my other line)...and will likely eBay the iPhone 5S/6 next year.

BTW, i am still loving my PureGear case/holster! It's a keeper. Simple. Lightweight. Does not look like a brick. My Otterbox is now officially stored away on my bookshelf.

I will keep this phone until the contract ends (skip the next iPhone) and get the one after. Who knows, maybe even go another year, but I doubt my tech upgrade desire will allow that.

Those PureGear cases look nice! Still running the OtterBox Commuter series, and very happy with it.

My wife picked me up a olloclip lens (late birthday gift that was on backorder). I have yet to put it on as I'm concerned about scratching the lens. It slides over the camera and the camera on the iPhone is flush. I worry about even the slightest debris on the phone or the olloclip scratching the phone camera glass. I wish the design on the ollo was a little different so it would not have to drag across it. Have any knowledge or experience with these things?

Scratching the glass(scratch resistant high tempered like gorilla glass) or the lens(sapphire crystal) with the occiclip is probably next to impossible. I don't know anyone with first hand experience though.

Sapphire is only vulnerable to diamond. You're safe. I wish that the whole screen glass was sapphire! :D

Good to know! My Droid Incredible lens scratched if you even looked at it. The camera was useless after a year. I had to purchase an aftermarket replacement to salvage it. I might have to test the new toy out later then! Will post up pics in the iPhone pic thread with the results.
