iPhone 5 - Who's in?

Decided to chime in on the iPhone reliability discussion. Not taking sides with the heated debate, just simply relaying our experiences as we have 3 iPhones in our house.

- my iPhone 4: I'm on my 2nd one because the 1st one had an issue. The button on top stopped working during 14th month of owning it. Took it into the Apple Store in Frisco, TX. They said first batch did have mechanical issue with that button. Despite being 2 months beyond warranty expiration, Apple Store replaced my iPhone 4 for free.

- wife's iPhone 4: no problems and she's had it nearly 2 years

- son's iPhone 4s: no problems and he's had it 4 months and traveled internationally with it

Batteries in all of 'em have remain solid, whereas past phones (non-Apple) would experience battery degradation within a year. iOS versions have always performed well on each phone.

The Apple Store customer service experience isn't a one-off. I've talked with folks at work and church who have had similar experiences with iPads, iMacs, iPods, etc... This is why some of my friends are devoted to Apple beyond just the iPhone.

Can't we all just get analog?

Have you not rooted your android or do you enjoy all the bloat ware they put on it?

His phone is Galaxy Nexus. If his is GSM, then no bloatware. If his is CDMA (Verizon), then he has bloatware that is permanent.

GN is a good phone, but suffers from poor reception on Wifi and cell. This is well-known. Camera performance is lackluster to say the least. Battery life is very poor. BUT, the good is that it gets updated quickly (IF he has GSM). Verizon GN is a useless Google product because Verizon clamps down on any updates from Google. In addition, Verizon GN suffers from extreme poor battery life with LTE.

Don't forget, some lucky customers also got iPhone 4S as replacement for iPhone 4 because of supply shortages! Kinda like BOSE, the good thing about Apple is that they do try to make their customers happy, even beyond warranty period. Contrast that to Samsung aftersale customer support...or lack of!

Both rooted and non rooted phones and two jail broken iOS devices currently in the house.

Bloatware has nothing to do with the question I asked you.

The majority of people will not neither jailbreak nor root their phone. You have mentioned time and time again that the iPhone is customizable. For the sake of people who are trying to gather information and learn, were the screenshots you posted from a jail broken iPhone? Also, do you think that android and iPhone stock OSs offer the same customization?

Of course I am talking about jail broken devices, like I said anyone that is serious about customization is going to jail break or root regardless.

It doesn't get anymore custom than custom ROMs. It's too easy not too, having a jail broken iDevice then you should know its literally one download and a few mouse clicks to jailbreak nowadays.

Thank you that's all I was looking for. Just want to make things clear for someone who is reading this and may not be as tech savvy as you.

Also, its not whether its easy or not, some people just won't feel comfortable doing it.

Sorry man. Verizon is evil IMO. Verizon has gotten too big and too powerful for its own good. Unlike Apple, Google doesn't have the strength to deal with Verizon...and has become Verizon's little b!tch. I researched quite a bit into getting GN from Verizon, but backed out due to this factor. Verizon is having its way with Google. Do you guys even have Wallet without rooting yet? Your updates are snail pace, isn't it? IMHO, the only Google experience is buying GSM (ATT/TMo/pre-paid plan). Sprint is actually less invasive than Verizon...they actually let Google do its thing on Sprint GN...no bloatware. And if i must stick with Verizon, then i might as well get a Motorola RAZR since updates don't come any quicker and you're still stuck with Verizon's bloatware.

If I wanted good reception and a big discount through work I had to go through Verizon. I knew all of the cons of going with the gnex but knew the dev support with the phone would be strong and that's what I wanted. I owned an iPhone 4 as well as several android devices. And I just prefer using android devices day to day as my primary phone.
For the record my intention on posting in this thread was never to challenge whether the iPhone 5 was a great phone or even the best, but to just aid in making things clearer to those who do not do the research you do. You have been throwing out more facts then any of us would ever need, I was just trying to be informative also. Your facts should be taken into consideration but also personal preference of the buyer.

Dusty, a few things. We all have opinions on certain products. I am not here to debate that. There is a lemon in every crowd. HOWEVER, most of what i have written is based on FACTS (such as processor design, screen tech, etc.) and repeated testimonials by people in the know (e.g. Sprint CEO, big time reviewers who have done hands-on reviews). I don't chase opinions from small groups of consumers and present them here as facts, such as what Koz had done.

As JD has clearly pointed out, you are far from neutral with your original post...so, no need to BS further about your reason being here. That would only make you look bad.

How old is your iPhone? If you're using an older version of iPhone, then what navigation are you using?? Maps on older iPHones are Google maps. If it is not google maps, then you're using a 3rd party navi system...if so, then how is it Apple's fault? iPhone and Android use similar GPS sensor etc.. (The major exception is that Samsung phones have had history of notoriously bad GPS sensor.)

I have presented facts that opinions can't change. Koz brought up that his GS3 is faster, for example. This is simply not true, whether opinions get hurt or not. I have clearly (beyond a doubt) presented facts that contradicts Koz's opinion. Did i hurt you in the process? Maybe...and did i lose you as a fan? Sure. Like i said before, i do not expect to get sympathy from Android users. I understand that you may not like what i post, but understand that what i post is factual and/or has much bearing on the topic at hand. It is not simply someting i pull out of my a$$, like what Koz had done.

This is why I try not to waste my time arguing with you. You're still trying to debate the validity of your argument and why your phone is better and I've said flat out that I don't care. I'm not trying to convince you that Droid is better, just posted MY personal preference. As far as jail breaking or rooting the phone, I don't care enough about any phone to fiddle with it that much.

As I've already stated, my phone use is very limited in comparison to the rest of America. Most people can't go to the bathroom without their phone, and I choose to leave it at home 9 times out of 10 because there is nothing so urgent that I need to be reachable 100% of the time. Though I will admit having it with me more often than now now that my wife is pregnant.

The thread started with a question, "who's in?" I said, "I'm not." To be more clear, I would prefer not to have a cell phone at all. I don't care to be that "connected." Unfortunately, we live in a society and I work in an industry that requires constant communication.

The issue I have with many iPhone users is that they are so dam proud of their iPhones. Its just a phone, get over it. It doesn't cure cancer or make curly fries, it's just a mechanical device. The only reason I replied to this thread more than once is because I get annoyed with people that choose to communicate like Thai. Like 04rnr, I guess the best medicine is just to ignore.

You do realize you're doing a bit of arguing whilst claiming an aversion to same?

This thread needs a cold keg of Coors Original and some grilled cheese sandwiches (with jalapenos, mmm.)

Hold the coors and pass the bourbon, I'll take extra jalepenos on my sammich

Personally, I think there should be separate water fountains and restrooms for android users.

Disclaimer: Due to the sensitive nature of this thread, the following is a joke.

Only because iPhone users would have no need for urinals.

That's Dusty for you...doing the same crap that he claims others are doing. Notice that he left out what iPhone he has.

I love people who jump in to say that certain objects are just objects. They forget that this is a discussion forum. If you feel that way, then why are you in this thread? More often than not, these same lame folks do care a great deal...probably even more than others. They just say that because they can't come up with a decent argument...and they frequently do so with vague circumstances. :D

As for iPhone owners being proud, i am sure that everyone likes their phones. But, unfortunately, a lot of Android fanboys don't have a clue about iPhones and only say what they have heard from their friend who heard from their neighbor who heard from a homeless guy under a bridge. Take Koz for example...he is clueless and only regurgitates what Samsung advertisements and fanboys have told him. The guy has no clue about any technical stuff behind the argument yet still regurgitated endlessly.

Again, i actually started out being an Android owner (twice) before having to go to iPhones out of necessity.

Take 04rnr as example. He posted TWICE about why iPHone is any better than Droid. Most folks, including me, ignored him the first time. So, he posted again! And when i posted factual statements, he goes silent...and only came back much later to get a cheap shot at me. Why? Can he not come up with a legit argument? Why the cheap shot? Why go off the topic? It is clear that he has "ignored" me. :D
