iPhone 6s Plus not connecting to 2015 TRD Pro

Anyone have this issue? Previous iPhone 5s connects, charges and plays audio via USB just fine. When I connect the 6s Plus i just got I get a transient charge icon on my phone that goes away after a instant. Then it's like the cord is dead or not connected to the T4R. No charging, no USB connectivity.

I've tried multiple lightening cables with the same result. Going back to the iPhone 5s and everything works as expected.

Bluetooth MAY work, but I haven't tried it. Reguardless I need the charging capabilities of the truck so just "Switch to Bluetooth" is not a reasonable fix for me.

Phone is probably too new for the truck, Toyota will probably come out with an update once they realize the problem. Use this link as reference

Always a good idea to stay a one level down on iOS for a few weeks after release. Gives the various vendors the ability to update their code to properly synch.

I have a 6S (not the plus). Just a guess, but if you had an older iPhone and transferred your data, the new phone will retain the same device name as the older phone. But, the underlying device address info will have changed.

So, make sure you've deleted the prior device from Entune, and the old bluetooth device info on the 6S plus. And then when you re-establish a linkage on the Entune, make sure you have connected with both Audio Player and Phone.

I also have the same issue with my 6S+. It will connect with BT fine, but it doesn't work if you plug it in. I've tried everything, new cable, reset phone and HU, etc. I am only able to get it to work first off when truck is cold, but then I restart the truck after driving somewhere and it doesn't work.

FWIW, @TRD_Attitude sent me this message:
"Removing the old phone from the list of paired devices completely fixed the problem! Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't have thought it would as the pairing seemed for Bluetooth and entune syncing, but whatever!"

Hmmm. Not good news as I have a 6s+ on order. I also have a non-Entune equipped 5th gen, so no code updates for me.

There was a post about androids having a similar issue a few weeks back. I believe the underlying problem is attempting to use the built-in USB port. It doesn't have the power capacity for the newer and larger phones / quick charging. Get a 12V to USB adapter for power and use BT.

It's unlikely it's a 6S/6S+ issue. The issue is more likely iOS 9. I'll try in my '14 and I'll post back up. As has been said, Toyota will likely need to issue an Entune update to resolve the issue.

I think it's a protective charging issue with the phone and/or iOS 9. Works fine when I plug it in to the charging outlet and use BT, but I'm sure that has different power charging specs.

I just checked mine I have the 6S with software 9.0.2 everything works great. It works fine with Bluetooth it works fine through the USB and it charges correctly , it'll play music it functions exactly as my 5 did. I did delete my old phone from Entune.

This problem as outlined above has to do with the 6s/6s Plus only. I was still having the problem after what I thought was initial success with deleting the profile from the 4Runner. Did not work consistently.


Went to Verizon and tried other iPhones including 5s, 6, iPad mini2, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. ONLY the 6s and 6S Plus repeatedly had the issue.

Now the question is: will there be a fix?

Agree with Bilbo. Re-establishing the connection may work. If Entune is detecting what it thinks is a device, but the MAC addresses are not matching up, that may be causing the USB to just shut down for some reason. I had some weird things happening with mine a while back (just iPhone 6 - not the s) so I just started using the power adapter to charge my phone instead and connect with Bluetooth. Took out Entune completely and Amazon music has been working great. I can still use the steering wheel controls for everything.

On a side note, you can verify if it's a power issue pretty easily. My online google-fu is not giving me an answer for this one. What is the amp rating on the charger that came with the 6s? If it's a 1 amp charger, then you should be good to go in regards to power from the Entune. If it's a 2.1, then I don't know. I'm trying to find the specs on the power output from the Entune USB port but I haven't had any luck yet.

It's the same 5W charger that came with my wife's 6 Plus. Don't know why it's an issue. Same amps, 2.1, watts change between iPad (10-12W), and iPhone / iPad mini (5W).
