Iphone 7 + issue

annoying my iPhone is my main source of music and to run it through bluetooth the volume is just so low for some odd reason and the quality drops a lot.

This may be an obvious question, but have you turned the bluetooth volume up on your phone? My old iPhone 5 and iPhone 7 connected via bluetooth both play at nearly the same volume as FM radio or CDs.

Yes but they updated the software and now it's working all the time now.

USB port charged my LG G3 for about 10sec, then stopped.

Also noticed a high pitch noise coming from truck speaker while it was charging. It doesn't do it with lighter plug.
Canadian 4runner, no entune

Having the same issue with iPhone 6+.... the deck says "hey idiot read the manual to use the iPhone via USB" .... have I read the manual yet...? Maybe not that part but I am working my way through the 500+ page pdf....

USB cable certified Apple
Bluetooth everytime it connects the first time the music skips....
The Entune updates are completed.....

Too much money in this thing for the stereo to not work as advertised.

Mine works most of the time with an iPhone 6, this is the second iPhone I have had with this truck, first was a iPhone 5.

It is a crap shoot IMO. If you have a version of entune that works with your phone Keep it. I have updated every time a new update comes out and what I have noticed is... nothing is consistent. What worked no longer works and what didn't work now works.

I will say, with how much everything is changing tech wise your lucky anything at all works. Bluetooth and USB protocols are pretty much stable and set in stone but it is manufacturers that aren't adhering to them, on both sides of the fence, the phone developers AND the integrators. It will get better slowly, it is definitely a turtle race.

I found the skipping didn't occur when using music played through the USB cable, but how entune handles playlists between wired and wireless connections is totally different. It's a UX nightmare.

Yeah, I don't know about Apple at fault, maybe bluetooth but not USB.

I pulled the stock nav out right away in my truck with a Kenwood. Not matter what iPhone is plugged in or iOS version it keeps on playing. I have a Pioneer in my other vehicle also and never listen to AM/FM or CD, iPhone only.
Every once and a while I may have to unplug/reconnect to get it to recognize, but not very often.

USB is a somewhat standardized protocol for power and data transmission, but it's not entirely set in stone. Additionally Apple does not use USB, they use a Lightning standard that is translated to USB.

For example certain features on newer phones such as "quick charge" do not work when the non-specified USB cable is used (also I found this out recently when I was given a wireless charging pad for my phone that using anything other than the USB cable provided with the unit will have my phone not charge, even though the pad lights up). A lot of issues I have seen with connection issues via cable (mainly Apple, but not limited to them) have been crap quality cheapo cables because apparently people who get suckered into paying for Apple's enclosed tyranny of a system or buying another brand of phone can't afford quality cables.

Additionally ontop of charging commands issued through the USB cable, data processing is done on the headunit and iPhone side (and/or other brands). A breakdown in communication between either will result in issues, much like plugging in a "Plug & Play" item in USB that has either corrupted or out of date drivers on the hardware side, the computer might not even recognize the item being plugged in (though it might charge/be powered up depending on how it's made).

USB is not like an On/Off switch, it has various features and functions that are being expanded mainly through software manipulation; a USB system (cable, ports, software, hardware, ect) is actually communicating constantly. Hence my previous statement that Apple doesn't play well with others outside of it's iron-grip control on it's ecosystem and Toyota lags behind on using what information Apple provides through their datasheets for approved 3rd party users (though as far as I understand, while those sheets are very useful and informative, Apple doesn't really provide any support services though) to create regular updates. On top of that, updates aren't exactly beamed instantly to the head units, most of the time you have to get them done under warranty by going to a dealership (assuming it's being done under the warranty period, after that it's up in the air if the dealership is gonna charge you for it or not).

I see more issues with Apple products but it's not solely endemic to Apple itself, it's just how the infotainment system is designed and implemented. Toyota has decided they want to resist using Apple/Android hybrid units and continue maintaining their strict hold on what a headunit should be. So I would not expect this type of issue to go aware moving forward, sort of how they've decided to use Start/Stop tech in their engines now despite other brands using it and dropping it, and users being annoyed to hell by them.

OP, not sure if you checked this but when I was experiencing similar issues it turned out to be some lint in my iPhone lightening socket. I was able to clean it out with a small safety pin and all is working fine now.

Cheers, James

Has anyone with the 7/7+ noticed issues where the music skips, or speeds up randomly, with bluetooth?

Yes, on both iTunes Music and Spotify ...and it drives me crazy.

If it is any consolation, my rental 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited does the exact same thing. I think it has to do with the Bluetooth driver requesting data more than once, but that is just a hypothesis.

I'm wondering if the new IOS update will fix it. Problem isn't there with a wired connection. And it never happened on my 6.

Most likely not. This seems to be a problem with the internal driver for the bluetooth chipset. My 5 did it. My wife's 5S did too. My 6 is over 2 years old, and it does this randomly. Shutting off the Entune Head Unit and turning it back on "usually" fixes the issue. Sometimes I have to turn off bluetooth on the phone and turn it back on to get rid of the double speed play. I may get the next iPhone that comes out, but my 6 is still running strong.

...For that matter, my iPhone 5 is sitting on my desk at home working just fine too...

I had NO issues with my 6 Plus, and was going to wait for the 8 but then I did what I've never done...I lost it. I lost it while off roading, in 4' deep snow, in an area without cell service. So no way to find it.

I find the random speed ups, glitches to be incredibly annoying. So I have to use the USB connection to avoid it pissing me off.

Yeah... I'm considering the 7+ pretty badly. I think they use a different chipset for the bluetooth in the + sized phones, but that is just a guess. The other three guys in my department have 6+'s and they have no issues.
