iPhones and Entune

Cool, what comes next is not intended to insult your intelligence! Have you cranked the volume on both the phone and the head unit? Did you get any audio? Did you disable bluetooth just to be sure it isn't trying to play via bluetooth?

Yes. I've tried two different cables. Just tried one more time making sure bluetooth was off and volume was cranked. I've also tried using Spotify with Entune app open in the background and still nothing but the same message "There are no songs available for playback. Please add compatible files to your iPod."

I have this issue with mine with a little different symptoms. The iPod option is greyed out when I plug in via USB. The headunit and iPhone are up to date. Tried multiple phones and have the same problem. Bluetooth works fine.

Check back in an hour. I'll load Spotify and give it a try.

Ok. I loaded up Spotify. Went out into the 15 degree evening and fired up the 4Runner. "Rick Flair Drip" started playing just fine in Spotify via a cable (kids today). There are no settings to tweak. My only other idea is "are you using a white Apple cable?" I'm not using a 6. I'm using an X, but I wouldn't think that would matter.

Yes. I’ve tried two different Apple cables. I’ve also tried two friends phones with no luck. Do you have the Entune app running in the background or even have the app at all?

At this point I may go to another dealership as this is getting ridiculous. Thank you for the help though.

You don't need Entune to do audio. Hell, I don't even have it loaded on my phone.

The only other thing I would suggest is that you try playing some songs via Apple Music. If you get any audio, then you know it's a Spotify on your version of iOS/phone issue.

The apple music solution was the answer to this for me a couple months back.

The interface between the head unit and the phone requires the phone to appear as an iPod for it to connect and communicate over USB.

I only figured this out because my iPhoneX quit working over USB in my 2015 LE the day I switched my music service from Apple to Spotify. After reinstalling the Apple Music app and downloading a green day album I previously purchased, everything worked again. The only downside is that it's never consistent what will come up playing when I turn on my 4Runner, the last played thing on my phone, or the Green Day album. That's still frustrating as hell, but at least I have USB audio back.
