Here you list your personal vehicle and the ipods you've used along w/ any errors. Also make requests.

I have an old 4th gen classic 20GB (non-photo) laying around that needs a little work and I'd like to use it in my 4Runner. Has anyone tried this one? I don't want to pay to fix it unless it will definitely work.

I have a first gen Mini that I can try out for someone if they need.

I'll go update this post as people post their experiences. This will give a comprehensive list of what works versus the few models that are actually listed in the manual as compatible. Please be very accurate about what model the ipod is. Please post in the following format.

Stereo: '10 SR5 ipod/bluetooth
* 3rd gen Nano 8GB - no issues
* 4th gen Nano 16GB (non-camera) - works, but will eventually have 'error3' message. Workaround is unplugging after each use.
* iphone 4 (iOS 4.1) - streams bluetooth perfectly. Steering wheel buttons for next/previous track now work if you've updated to iOS 4.1. Previously, only volume up/down and the play/pause button worked.

Stereo: '10 Limited ipod/bluetooth
* 2nd gen Nano 4GB - no issues
* 3rd gen Nano (unknown size) - no issues
* 2nd gen Touch 32GB - works most of the time. Occasional 'error3' message. Workaround is unplugging after each use.
* iphone 3Gs 16GB - bluetooth streaming no issues

iPod Nano (2nd Gen) and iPod Touch (2nd Gen)

Both my Nano and Touch work well with the USB port.

USB Connection:
Pros
- charges the ipod
- ipod hidden in glove box
- ability to see your plays lists on the stereo screen
- control the tracks from the steering wheel controls

Cons
- browsing the songs on the stereo is cumbersome
- difficult to jump around to different songs
- scrolling through songs selects the song even though I did not hit "PUSH TO SELECT"


I have also successfully connected my Touch via BlueTooth.

BlueTooth Streaming Audio
Pros:
- Auto-connect: if you set it up to be "From Car" then it automatically connects to the iPod when you get in the car. You just have to hit play on the iPod
- iPod can be anywhere within the vehicle

Cons
- Not able to browse the songs from the stereo like you can with the USB connection. (For some this might be okay)
- Cannot control the tracks from the steering wheel
- iPod is not charging like it does with the USB

i picked up a cracked screen ipod classic (160gb) just to leave in my glovebox. has all of my music (50gb or so), with room to grow.

its nice to know that ALL of my music is available at any time
 
16g iphone 3Gs

con that both the phone and the audio cant be blue tooth sync'd at the same time, havent played with the USB connection yet.

Otherwise no issues.

What do you mean by "the phone and audio cant be sync'd at the same time"????

Mine works fine. Plays blue tooth streaming and transitions to a phone call, and back again perfectly. It does struggle at starting to play music from time to time, but I just set the phone to "speaker" and back to "car audio device" and then it works great.

I swear when I BT my iphone as an audio device, the phone BT kicked off. Maybe I have to play around with it more.

Did you set it up as bluetooth for phone and then later go back and set up the streaming? I seem to recall that you need to set up bluetooth phone and streaming one immediately after the other. For example, as it is finishing up the setup for the bluetooth phone, it will ask if it is a music streaming device as well.

Which TE stereo do you have? 3Gs?

For those of you unsure of what model ipod you have (touch, for example), check out the following link: Mac Buyer's Guide: Know When to Buy Your Mac, iPod or iPhone It has release dates and changes between the models.

I just got my iPhone 4 this week. It synced up perfectly for both voice and music streaming. In fact I was able to sync while sitting at a reststop for a pee break. Seemed to sync easier than my SLVR. It doesn't play nice if you are trying to charge and stream music over the Bluetooth.
 
I can confirm the iPhone 3G (Bluetooth Streaming) works with the '10 Runner SR5. I love the audio streaming because when I use the Tomtom app, the turn by turn voice directions are sent through the vehicle speakers.


EDIT: Forgot to add the fact that I am also using iOS4.

The iphone 4 w/ bumper fits great in the little weird shaped coil tray. It stays put, is easy to reach to change the track while bluetooth streaming, and only has a mm or so on each side else it would be perfect.

If you get the bluetooth accessory, it should work, but you won't be able to stream audio. The premium radio is worth the extra money, IMO. It charges your ipods/iphones and lets you use the really clever bluetooth streaming.

Does anyone know if the talk button can control the voice control on iOS4? I know it will work on some other manufacturer's radios, but I don't know about Toyota.
 
5th gen, no nav, iPhone 3GS, iOS4

I found out the method to pair the phone and the audio streaming is to follow the instructions for pairing the phone, not the instructions for pairing the audio! The manual has them in separate locations. When pairing the phone you will also be prompted to pair the audio. The only difference I noticed between the two procedures was how the pairing was initiated. When pairing the phone start the pairing by pressing the off-hook switch on the steering wheel instead of the Aux button on the radio.
 
Apple improved the bluetooth AVRCP profile on iOS 4.1 to include previous and next track function with bluetooth streaming. Now just set your iphone 4 to shuffle and no more messing w/ the iphone. If voice control of the iphone worked, it would be simply perfect.

I was on vacation all of last week so I didn't try it out until today. Thank you, Apple, for FINALLY including this!
 
Ipod Touch 3G Skips

-Ipod Touch 3g ver 4.1

USB "skips" as if it were playing a damaged CD. (best analogy I can think of) Also, sometimes the interface software screen does not display song titles correctly or sometimes not at all. Sounds great if not for the skipping. Would be nice if it had the "Genius" features.

BT works fine, but sound seems to be not as crisp as through the USB. Same with the AUX interface.

I took it to the dealer and his IPhone 4th gen seemed to work fine. We tried my Ipod in another identical brand new 4Runner and same result. So we assumed my IPod was faulty. Apple store replaced my IPod, but I am still having the same problems. I tried a new USB cable too.

I tried my 1g Ipod touch and it seems to work fine too.

What am I missing?
