Is 200*+ normal?

I have seen time to time people mention the normal range for coolant, however my truck typically runs in the 200*+ range all the time and in the summer has reached 220.

All this with no dummy light and no sign of issues. FYI, I just recently did the TB, so the water pump, T-stat, and coolant have been replaced.

Any temp guru's wanna take a stab at this?

mine regularly runs between 200-210. Before TB/WP it ran at 190-200. I think it has something to do with the jiggle valve on the thermostat not being set to the correct position.

According to my SGII I'm usually in the 190-200 range, but can hit 235 driving up the mountain. Temps quickly return to normal after the climb is over and settle back around 200.

I recently put a winch on and have been keeping an eye on my temps to see if it may be obstructing air flow, so far my temps range from 194 to 210 on average. I did hit 216 on day while going 70 on an incline but it cooled after I slowed down a bit...

I'd look at your clutch fan. And if your T-Stat jiggle valve is at 6 o'clock........

The 96-97 both run 185-189 all the time. Winter summer etc

Mine was always 212*F and at times in the 220's. Replaced the radiator and flushed the coolant, filling with Zerex red. Ended up unable to burp it due to thermostat being plugged from gunk (or something), so then it was running hotter and boiling over. Redid the drain, replaced tstat with jiggle valve at 6'oclock, 190* average since then. So with the work you did I'd assume it's unlikely that your thermostat is gunked up, but maybe look at the radiator or fan clutch.

TStat is in correct and I burped the system as I filled it. My thoughts are on the old radiator. Fan seems to be operating as intended too.

Too hot to love

Mine always runs 190-194, no matter what. I can be climbing west texas, sierra madre or the rockies. Idling for an hour, city driving or highway - all in 105+ outside temps and the A/C cranking.

Have you replaced the radiator cap?

I had an incident in TX at an event where my fan clutch seized up and my truck overheated. I ended up buying a new fan clutch and KOYO radiator. Had my buddy at Toyota put it in and use their tool for pumping fluid in, sucking air out. I use to never see 200's before then. Now, at idle will be right around 195-200 while cruising interstate at 75 I'll see around 204-207. That's still normal operating temp though. I don't ever see anything above 210. If you see constant temps above 210 but not dangerously harming temps above that you probably either have air in the system or a thermostat issue. If you get constant 215s and 220's + you need to do some investigating.

As for the OP, how many miles are on the original radiator? How old is the cap? It could be time for a new one for preventative. You might take it to Toyota or a shop that has the right tools to correctly bleed the air out of the system as these trucks are tedious to get all the air out.

For the record, which I didn't clarify in the OP, I only saw the 220's prior to the recent work, so I'm not sure if it will hit is again...ill keep my eye out.

The radiator, as far as I can tell is original, if not it has been in since just before 112,000 (when I bought it) and now it is at 208,000. The cap as far as i know is the same as well, but I don't ever get any boiling out or symptoms from the cap.
