Stock to stock, FJC is slightly better. After minor mods though, the only thing I find with 4th gen is the huge rear bumper/frame which hurts departure angles compared to FJC, but I think the width of FJC could make up for the difference. I wouldn't trade my V8 for one, FJ's does have a cooler interior imo but I'm not a fan of the rear door/window configurations.
Is an FJ Cruiser a better off-roader than a 4Runner?

Interesting perspectives. I've driven my FJC for 5 years now and I like it. It is easier to live with than some think. I have always been partial to two door SUVs since my family's ownership of a '75 Bronco. And yes it is a 2 door SUV with some access doors. For those wanted 4 doors, it would be a big disappointment.
We just bought a '05 SR5 for my son, and I've been impressed with it. Good content for even this trim level. The A-pillar sweeps farther back and the seat level is higher giving a smaller entry in the front. But this gives it a sleeker line outside and better driver visibility.
Both of these are running same size tires and similar lift. The driving feel is very similar. Our T4R is heavier and drives like it. Might not have as much HP. I like driving both on the road, now I just need to get them both offroad for back to back drives.

I'm pretty sure the FJ is heavier, but it does have heavier Springs which would minimize body roll more.
The listed weight on Edmunds for a 2010 FJC and a 2005 T4R shows the FJC only 30 lbs heavier. Also it shows the T4R with 15 less HP. Granted our Runner has an ARB bumper with winch and larger tires so that would be the heavier feel right there.
I've been really impressed with the Runner. My son tells me that I need to stop grabbing the keys and driving it to work. I just remind him that he still only has a learner's permit and that insurance doesn't pay for itself.
Ya I knew they were close. Makes you wonder though, where does that extra weight come from since the FJ is smaller than the t4r?
I have the V8 in mine so I have a ton more power. Numbers wise it doesn't look like a big difference, but take one for a ride and it's huge! :girl:

thats because the FJ has less interior sound dampening and "plushness" so thats probably a lot of the weight.
FJs are nice, but they're not much more aerodynamic than a brick. I already get crap mileage so i wouldnt even want to know what it would be with a driving brick.
My mom gets 15mpg with her bone stock 2009 FJ... I hate that thing! Maybe it would be cool built up, supercharger, all the goodies, but I doubt it would be better than a 4runner no matter what you did to it.
