I would say patients and what [MENTION=129990]CAMELPRO[/MENTION] said try a search tempest sort of search it lets see more options.
My biggest advice is if you get a gut feeling about the vehicle listen to it, if it says bounce like its the zombie apocalypse then don't touch it. Just make sure the gut feeling isn't that you need to poo, it happens.

I'm in Eastern Pennsylvania.
I always wanted a 4R, so when it came time to find one, I started looking on CL.
Found some very interesting prices, but really had to wonder why the price was so low, on a vehicle that holds it's value, even close to 200k miles.
As it turned out, my new employer had a sales call with a local Toyota dealer,
which had a few 4Runners advertised on cars.com (and similar sites).
I honestly felt a lot more confident buying from a business, which wasn't going anywhere...
as opposed to some unknown person, who could easily disappear after selling me a lemon.

I found this one near Buffalo which might be closer to you. Has the air suspension.

I would stay away from CL.
There are a few good vehicles if you look hard and find listings who the ORIGINAL owner is selling the vehicle. Usually original owner vehicles are kept and maintained very well.
CL has a lot of salvage title listings, used car dealers selling cars, etc. I would stay away from these listings.

My deal lately is going for a vehicle with higher mileage that has been taken care of. Rigs like 4runners will last forever, but only if it hasn't been towed and rodded it's whole life.
I found an 05 V6 SR5 4x4 with 180k miles on it for $8500. I hate having that many miles, but it drove and ran perfectly. Good deal in my opinion.
People are typically scared of high miles, but if you know what you are doing and looking for you can get some good deals...welll I guess time will tell with this one

I got mine from a Honda dealer. Someone had traded it in. Maybe a little pricey, but I figure not as much as if I got it through a Yota dealer. Find a non-Yota dealer you trust, and ask them to keep an eye out for exactly what you want. If they know you are interested, they will work with you.
I bought my '03 Limited V8 with 170k miles for $10k a couple months ago from a Lexus dealer here in town. I jumped on it right away and there were several people waiting to buy it if I didn't. It's lived in Portland all it's life (so no apparent rust), hasn't been modded at all, and was driven by a lady from the 'burbs who traded it in on a Lexus. They did a full tune on it, fixed (so the paperwork says) a few issues, and put new tires on it. It runs like a champ so far with only a small rattle from somewhere in the sunroof area that I haven't taken the time to track down yet and a couple buttons on the dash with burned out backlights. I'm thinking about doing the spacer suspension lift (doing the work myself) sometime, maybe next year. I'm hoping it'll go another 130k, then I'll get the 5th gen that I couldn't afford this time. After driving a 1995 V6 T4R for 17 years and then driving a 2008 F-150 Lariat supercrew 4x4 for the last 3 years I was really missing the size and style of the 4Runner and the Limited V8 feels like a sports car. I'm happy with the purchase (so far at least).

I got mine off CL, you just have to jump on them quick when you see a good one. I was looking and checking for about a month.
I got mine from a dealer outside of Salem Oregon, 05 V8 Limited with 130k, lived all its life there. ZERO rust and its super clean. And its the nice blue, Stratosphere Mica color.
Just keep looking, one will find you.

CL here, found my 2010 with 52k in April, jumped on it! Prior mom-mobile(still finding pacifiers)
If it's out of state or too far to look for yourself, bite the bullet and pay for a preinspection company to look at it; anything they find wrong you can usually use to negotiate price with

I spent a long time searching CL (using SearchTempest for larger search area), eBay and the dealer listings on cars.com, autotrader.com, etc. The ones on CL were usually trashed, or higher mileage then I was looking for..I was looking specifically for a 2005+ V8 4WD with under 100k miles, so that eliminated most of the listings on its own. The ones I found on eBay were often small dealers with questionable feedback ratings, and usually overpriced.
Eventually I found a dealer listing on cars.com from a local Toyota dealer for exactly what I was looking for, priced right, and turned out to also be a 1-owner truck. I showed up the morning after the listing was posted, and before they even had a chance to wash and prep the truck...after a test drive and scan of the maintenance records, I bought it. While I was signing the papers, someone else showed up to see it :wave:

CL find here as well. Picked up an 07 V6 Limited with 66k mi in near perfect shape. The good CL deals move fast. This time around two other people called trying to buy the truck while I was there checking it out and making the deal.
+1 on SearchTempest also, although recently I have been using the 'include nearby areas' function on the left sidebar on CL. ST gets wonky when CL makes site and listing updates.
