Is it a good price for a 2012 T4R, SR5, 4WD?

I'm new in this forum and I have been thinking of buying a 2012 T4R, SR5, 4WD recently. The best offer I got so far is $33750+TTL (MSRP 36719) with following options:

CP-convenience package, FE-50 state emissions, TH-Fabric-trammed 50/50third row, CF-premium carpet set, BM-ball mount, CB-cargo cross bars, CN-cargo net.

The out-the-door price would be around $36220. By the way, I'm in Texas and the tax rate is 6.25%.

I'm not sure if this is a good or even right price for this vehicle. Your comments are very appreciated.

On a scale of bad/fair/good/great - I consider 10% off msrp to be 'good'.

If you search the 5G forum, you'll find this subject has been discussed ad nauseum.

I second this, Truecar.com works rather nicely. I used it to get a great deal on my '11 Trail at the end of Dec. Dealer even beat the the number truecar gave me. My salesman even explained that the truecar has been hurting them as they cannot make as much profit when a customer comes in with a number from them...Even if the dealer isn't rated by truecar, show them a price certificate with another dealer on it, and an email from that dealer about using that price. Gives the consumer an upper hand in buying the car they want. Don't know if it works all the time, but I did for me and the few other friends I have turned to the site. Check it out.
 
Is this a good Price

They should be able to easily drop it to $33,000. That is what I paid for mine. I live in a tax free state so the OTD price would not be a fair comparison for me to present. My license plates are $40 per year and Title is one time fee of $35. The sticker on mine was $37,629, which included the premium package.

HA! I love it! I just paid my registration this past oct. and it was I think $150 for two years. And that was to keep my old plates. If I wanted to switch to the ugly, new yellow NY plates it was 170 I think. Or $190 for new plates and my old number. Gotta love NY

I checked recent local sales in truecar. Great price is less than $34,435, good price is less than $35,475. The recent two sales are within ($33,259-$33,658) and ($33,698-$34,137). The lowest sale is ($32,380, $32,819).

Based on these sales, I'm also in the opinion that it's a good but not great deal. However, I would take it if there is no other better offer in this week as I don't expect everything in life to be perfect.

Don't be shy you should be able to negotiate any price off invoice. Call or e-mail 4 dealers (Fleet sales or internet sales) and get their best price and get the dealer to match or beat it to get your car. I got a price of $500 behind invoice on my 2012 LE. Good Luck

I used truecar to buy my T4R. I negotiated for a while with the salesman and wasn't getting to the price point I wanted so I busted out the truecar quote. Price instantly came down a couple thousand more to $33,600. I told them I wouldn't buy unless they came down to an even $33k. They said no and I walked out. Came back the next day and bought it for $33,600 lol. I had already decided I was going to buy that exact truck (went by every night after hours for 2 weeks to make sure it wasn't sold) from that exact dealership (5 min from my house) and wasn't gonna let $600 keep me from getting that truck.

Truecar is useful if you want to get a GOOD (not great) price with almost no negotiation. Just walk in with the truecar quote and they should honor it. Just make sure all the options you choose on truecar match up to the vehicle you're looking to buy.

I totally agree with you that $600 shouldn't keeping us from getting what we want. By the way, the options of the vehicle I'm looking at matches the the options on truecar.

I was told that the vehicle should be arrived at dealor's location this week and I'm looking forward to buying it.
 
Be careful when using a service like TrueCar, there a lot of people reporting problems with these services (google truecar scam) . If you find a good dealer it should be OK, if not you will get the run around, bait-and-switch or all sorts of excuses not to honor the quoted price.
 
I just picked up an SR5 last Thrusday with nearly the same package as you and paid 33700..... I'd say it was a good deal; and I had a no hassel experience at Avondale Toyota in AZ. Those guys are good guys over there.

I think all that stuff online about TrueCar seem to be hype and spin driven by auto dealers and car salespersons. Seems like they are just trying to protect their profits by discouraging consumers.

Yeah, search "truecar scam" on Google - and get the "News" results - there aren't any. If this was a "scam" - it would hit the media/news outlets.

Finally bought the 4Runner today. We did a little more negotiation and had a happy end (both sides).

The final price is 33388+TTL. Stainless exhaust tip was missed in previous options.

Will try to post photos soon on this forum.
