Is it absolutely stupid that I want to buy a winch just because it looks cool?

Same here, we just got our first 4runner (2019 SR5 prem). My wife will be the primary driver of it. Im hooked, seriously considering buying a used 2014+ for myself. :eyebrows:

LOL. Same for me too. Bought the wife an 18 TRD Pro because she liked the way it looked. Took it offroading 2 weeks later with a bunch of modded keeps and was amazed at what it could do. Heck I ended up pulling 2 keeps behind me over an obstacle I made it over. Even those guys were impressed. Ended up ripping the steps off over and scratched the crap outta it but I was hooked. Wet sanding and sliders were the next mods.
I sold my GMC and tracked myself down a used TRD Pro too. Now we have a pair of them.

I'm not quite that guy, lol. I get a daily dose of mud and grime for the job site. I would love to learn to take it off-road. I just have no idea what I am doing and I'm a little nervous about going out without instruction or a guide. For the time being, it would definitely be just for looks, but I'd love to work up to being someone who could actually use a winch. And we have had some large trucks get stuck on a jobsite before, so there' always hope for that. You might find me intentionally aiming for some mud.

Something that no one has mentioned yet...Even if its just for looks, learn to use it properly and have the right accessories in case you ever do have to use it. Nothing more embarrassing than having a winch and coming across a situation where you might need it and not knowing how to properly use it effectively and safely. ie, have a cable blanket/damper, gloves, maybe a snatch block. I think its just a good skill to have anyway.
Think of it like a fire extinguisher. You probably won't need it, but know how to use it in case you do.

Friend of mine has helped some dude in a ditch on a snowed in Sierra pass this Sunday. He taught him how to turn on 4wd in his new truck.
There had been dozens of people stuck there last week - for up to 16 hours. If not for yourself - maybe you can use your properly installed and practiced with winch to help someone out one day.

I bought a vehicle at a trim level that included a non-functional hood scoop because I think it looks cool. The cheaper flat hood model would get me anywhere I need/want to go. As such, it would be hypocritical of me to poo poo on your winch fantasy! :rofl:
But I do agree with the person above, if you get one make sure you know how to use it just in case it is ever needed.

It is unfortunate one needs to get stupid hood scoop to get lockers and kdss that are hard to impossible to retrofit.

This is the best thing I've seen in forever.
ound:ound: I kinda hope it's a joke - but also - I love it! I seriously want to get one and put it on my wife's car. lol. I went to a lot of work to hide my winch. But it's really nice to have when you need it.

The thing is, if you don't get it, you definitely can never use it.
But if you do get it, then maybe over time you'll be inspired to go on new adventures you might not have gone on without it.
Also, there is no rule that says we must get by on only the bare minimum that is necessary to accomplish the things we need in that moment.
Lastly, when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

If Toyota picked army green color for 2020 pro ,I’d trade in my Ltd for that in a heartbeat and mine is a daily driver. Life is too short to not enjoy things you want to do.

Yes, I got it due to color and liking the other Pro accessories. Would have been happy to purchase a "lesser model" (yep, I'm trolling) if it came in cavalry blue, green or blizzard pearl (didn't want a limited), but Toyota just seems chintzy with their color selection on 4runners.
