Is it easy to swap a moonroof window?

So apparently when they face lifted the 4runner, there was a change to the whole track. It is slightly longer so now the dome light doesn't match up with the holes. I ordered it through a part supplier yard. Got everything aligned and calibrated, tested it several times before putting the headliner up and then ran into some issues sadly. The only thing I can think of doing now is just swapping the glass out but that doesn't look so simple. It came out of a 2005 and going into a 2008. Was so excited to have fixed my moonroof till it wasn't truly fixed.

I couldn't even find much as how to replace the assembly so I feel like I'm in uncharted territory.... oof!

Not trying to doubt your capabilities but are you sure your installing the headliner right or have an oem sunroof. The roof and sunroof assy did not change from 03-09. Same part numbers for both. Even during an refresh, manufacturers would not change such a large item like a roof.

I would double check everything as AFAIK except for some cosmetic things the track, frame, main body of the 4runner were not changed between 03-09.

It doesn't sound like you're talking about the actual glass panel itself (which isn't too bad to replace).

Replacing the entire sunroof is fairly easy once you have dropped the headliner, it's just a pain to do by yourself. Do you have a donor assembly? Or pictures of what you're talking about?

My apologies. The whole assembly is different. The dome light and drain lines don't match up. I ended up just swapping the glass panel which is what I should have done in the first place. I went by the dealership and a shop when asking about replacing they glass. They made it sound like a 4-5 job and dealership wanted 1200 when I asked about them doing it when I bought it from them. Needless to say it should have been a 30 minute job and I turned it into a much longer one but all is fine now and loving the sunroof. I ended up pulling the motor too and junk the frame in case I need the motor assembly down the road.
