Is it safe?

In Oklahoma (w/ a license) you can just wear your gun on your hip come November 1st. No mod needed.

I was carrieing (concealed w/ permit) and got pulled over, i told the cop i was carrieing, his response was "so am I". He wrote me a ticket and I was on my way. No big deal.
 
Same in Las Vegas, you can carry a registered gun in plain view (as long as your not going into certain buildings (state, federal, post offices, banks etc)
I carry my CCW and I carry it cross drawn when driving, if I do have to leave it in the truck I try and anticipate that in my daily travels, if not I put it under the seat and mak a metal note not to be too long, or if my wife is with me she stays in the car.
As for my AK, M4, Sig 552 and my shotguns they are in my 6ft floor safe in the house.
 
PA you only need a permit to carry concealed. Open carry requires nothing. Also, there is no need to inform LEO and we are now a Shall Issue state.
 
In many states, there's no requirement to inform a LEO that you're armed. However, it's not only a courtesy, but a safety issue that could protect both you and the officer - i.e. in the event he or she asks you to step out of the vehicle, etc. Better to know up-front than suddenly see someone with a gun and have no idea why.

I've always appreciated it when anyone I've ever stopped or contacted who was armed told me beforehand.

i have the console vault as well. its bolted in and tho not impervious, it would be very difficult, loud and time consuming to break into. nothing is perfect but its a good amount of deterrent for the money.

No need for name calling. You live in a very different country with different issues. I am fortunate that I don't need to go to areas, within a few miles, where people are routinely randomly shot dead. To someone in Britain it might seem insane that you drive an SUV based on conditions where they live.

Not at all.
You carry a spare tire, first aid kit, maybe a winch or Highlift jack, tools and hoses, insurance on just about everything, cell phone, CB or ham radio, etc. All are for your protection from things that can't be predicted. This is the same, the world is a violent place and police can't be everywhere.
 
I think, statistically, you are more likely to accidently do something stupid than you are to ward of some type of criminal with your gun.
 
The fact that it took you less than 5 minutes to reply when you couldn't possibly have read all that in that time, yet have dismissed it as 'manipulated data by liberals' makes me think you might be a somewhat closed minded person.
The article seemed quite fair and balanced in pointing out its own criticisms in the first paragraph. The other sites linked were "facts"
