Oh yeah - DD it is. Considering I drive 50 miles to work EACH WAY, I should have considered an alternative, but honestly my last car was a Dodge Stratus R/T and it got about the same gas milage as the 4runner, but less comfortable. Besides, Michigan winters REQUIRE something tougher.

Evilsanta2, I know you weren't hating. I was just answering you with how I managed to get such a nice vehicle at my age.

Your rent is another factor. I'm going to a JC for my AA Degree so i'm still at home, don't have to worry about rent yet, so I'm saving all of my money. Few thousand a month, so hopefully when I do move out on my own like you, I will have a substantial amount of money to keep me going while I finish my education at a University. I'm probably going to Colorado. California is so over-rated.

It's the only place to consider...

I guess that depends on the major, but for a vast majority, (including mine which is electrical engineering), its the best school (ratings-wise) in CO and every state that touches CO.

Some of the exceptions: Teaching, Veterinary, Culinary, Geological Engineering
 
My wife uses our newest, most dependable vehicle as a daily driver. She drives the 4runner. I drive a Jeep Wrangler as a DD. It gets 15mpg, but my boss buys my gas. When we get a new vehicle in 2 years, the 4runner will be my DD workmobile. I intend to get at least 300k miles out of it in the 10 years I will have owned it. Then one of my kids will drive it to college if I still trust it.
 
yea the 4R is my DD. me and my wife take turn and switch out our other Accord. i drive 3 miles/trip to work while she does 20 miles/trip. when gas price went rise high, i take the 4R and she may takes it once every 2 weeks or so.
and now she's off work for a few weeks and we both going to the store everyday, so it's her turn to take the 4R lately.
 
lol, she never will..... pretty much she just needs a car to bring her from point A to point B, doesn't really care about car stuff at all. not like us surfing the forum every minutes and keep getting this and that for the 4R. but once awhile when she's in the mood, the v8 is handy for her :D :D

like i was scared the sh!t out one time when i was a passenger and she's driving (back then when i still had my toy, turbo civic), somehow i got her mad, and she did redlined and full boost in first 4 gears. LOL, you'll image how wet my pants was....... lucky it didn't happen in the 4R YET!!!
 
I use it as a DD right now, when its paid off, I plan to pick up a cheap, low maintenance car like a Civic and give the 4runner boat towing, camping, adventure, crappy winter weather, and Sunday duties only. Then I can hold onto her for a longer period of time and suck all the value out of it as I can. I'm not into having newer cars all the time, just my preference. When I get a nice ride (aka large payments) I do it for the long haul so I don't take a bath trading it in.
 
The 4R is my wifes daily driver. She gets the newest car, and I'm stuck with the hand-me-downs. I can't wait till we finally buy a new car, cause then the 4R will be MINE! Then I'm allowed to lift it and do all the cool other mods I've been wanting to do!

My 86 is my daily driver. Have had her for 8 years now. Driven from Springfield to Chicago then Little Rock and now Augusta, GA. All in the same year. I've never trusted a vehicle more.
 
I actually bought my 4Runner to replace my old Rodeo as a daily driver instead of using one of my two car toys. A Turbo CRX and a Datsun 510 with sidedrafts, both that only run on 93, aren't gas mileage champions, and on trips my 02 4Runner averages 21 mpg. I love my two fun cars, but fitting 4 people into my 4Runner is way easier than trying to squash them into one of my 2 seaters lol:biggrin2:
 
Yep, my DD too, for now. Wife is pregnant with our 1st, and due in May. At that time, she'll be a stay at home mom and have the 4runner, and I'll take her 07' Mazda 3. I drive 40 miles roundtrip a day, but it's all back country highway, so cruise control rules the road, which really helps the ole' MPG's. Got a 05' V8, run mid grade, and the little computer always averages out around 19.1 mpg's. Has 56k on the clock. Biggest bump in mpg's I've seen was when I replaced the air filter, put in new plugs, and seafoamed the crank case twice at oil change times "bought it with 50k on the clock". MPG's came up from average of 17.8 to 19.1. Premium will yield average of 19.4, regular puts me at 18.7.

Now the Mazda is a whole different story, with averages in the high 20's.
