We looked at a lot of new vehicles from different manufacturers in a really wide range of prices to include some significantly more expensive than the 4Runner. In the end, we stuck with the program. Our program started in 2006. Buy something that we could potentially allow our kids to "have access to". Keep them forever and stay away from payments. The kids are now in high school and college and we now own essentially 4 of the same thing.

This buying and keeping of vehicles is probably not a bad idea, but you must buy vehicles that are proven to be vehicles that will last and hold their resale values. The 4 Runner would be one of those vehicles, but many would be a bad choice for doing this.
