Is the dealer pulling a fast one?

I started my 4runner the other day and once i put it in drive and started driving, both the VCS and TCS and the little tire pictures lit up on the dash. i tried several times to restart the car with the same thing happening. i do not have a check engine light. one time when i started it the ABS light started blinking. The ABS light went out the next time I started it. I hooked the car up to my code reader and nothing.

I have a the highest level Toyota warranty, so off to the dealer. They called back and said that my battery was bad and that it screwed up the speed sensors or some sensors and that i needed a new battery ($150) and the system had to be re-calibrated for $99.

I told him I would buy my own battery ($69) but he told me it still needed to be calibrated.

I have never heard of re-calibrating anything just because of low voltage. Anyone heard of this?

Good news was my water pump was bad and they are going to replace under warranty...get some of my $1200 back.

you can calibrate it yourself, just need to wires and the directions are in the problems forum. just search vsc atrac lights

We'll the easy fix is this, just do the service light reset, put key on acc, make sure ur on odo, then hold and turn the key to on and hold it, light should flash and everything will be normal.

It's not the maintenance light that's lit.

update....I confronted them about the TSB and this being a known problem and he said they would do it free of charge, just drop off a battery and pay the labor to put it in. They charged me $30 to put the battery in!! picked up car and light is off....if this happens again i will do the recalibration myself.

Thanks for your input,

The warranty I have is the platinum i think. it is the bumper to bumper toyota warranty. I am Irish and followed Murphy's Law...If I shell out $1500, nothing will go wrong with the car for 7 yrs and 100000 miles. If it was some aftermarket warranty i never would have bought it.
