Is the VCS and Trac Good for Anything

VSC is a pain in the ass but I have found some use for atrac in my 2002. Works in low speed when a wheel is spinning, otherwise I don't notice it.

The atrac/trac can work really good offroad. It can actually simulate a locker. The newer versions work a lot better on the later generations. Ive watched it brake the tire in the air and then transfer the power to the wheel on the ground and get you out of a situation and open diff would be dead in the water.

My buddy's 3rd gen breaks loose like crazy too. Mine is planted great in the rain- unless I WANT to break it loose. I assumed his tires were shot, but they actually still have plenty of life left. I wonder why some break loose so easily.

I assumed TRAC is like the ATRAC on the newer rigs- where it applies brakes to slipping tires in order to help in low traction situations- am I wrong?

Yeah, my 1st T4R was a 1999 Gen3 SR5 4WD, 5 speed manual. In rain or snow, it was the worst 2WD vehicle I ever drove. It would slide out in the slightest rain in 1st gear in 2WD. In the rain at a stop light or stop sign, I would put in it 1st gear AND 4WD. After I pulled out, I would pull back to shift to 2nd, and on the way forward, I moved my hand to the lever to shift back into 2WD, then backward again on the shift level to get into 3rd. After the years, I got real smooth at doing this. In 4WD it would go anywhere, even with semi-bald tires.

I found this and though it might be helpful. However, I am not that great with electronics and don't feel comfortable doing this mod. Messing around the ECU always makes me nervous. But it looks like it would turn off the vsc and traction at low speeds and then re-engage it. Looks like Beto talk about it in the Andy Mod 2.0 that is on Yotatec. Seems like this would let you power through snow, gravel, etc, but have it turn back on for times you are driving on the highway or at a higher speed.

I did the Andy mod 2.0. Leaves the and active but disables the rest. As mentioned there are legit uses for Trac/VSC and the switch gives me that option. You must flip the switch and turn off the ignition to re-engage Trac/VSC.
I suppose there is a work around for that too but I jus t leave it off 99% of the time so works good for me.
