Is there a keyless entry option for a 96 limited T4R?

I have called a few dealer and some say no and say yes when they type in the info I their system. And since it's and electronic item they don't do refunds. So I don't want to chance it and be out $50-$60 and stuck with something that is no use to me.

Does anyone one here have a 96 with the toyota keyless entry or does anyone know if it even came as an option?

Its actually a aftermarket dealer installed item. RS3000 (or something real close to it) I believe is its model name.

If you have two or so unused connectors under your drivers seat your half way there.

I have the keyless. Yes, it's the RS300. I'm surprised yours didn't come with it since it's a Limited.

Correct, it's the RS3000. 1996-97 4Runner's came with a version that used black remotes while 1998(?)+'s came with a version that used gray remotes. I'm not sure if the two systems are interchangeable between model years but I just thought I'd let you know if you try to install one. I'm pretty sure there is some wiring involved in the installation.

Not sure it did come with one or not. I just bought it a bit over a year. And I just got the keys with it. Not sure if it ever came with you.
So I'm pretty sure if I get one for a 97 it'll work being its for the same system. (RS3000)

Did you look under the driver's seat for a black box? It should have a green button on one of the sides as well.

Just looked and looks like I do have the RS3000 but it's not black. It's grey not sure if that matters in any way. There's no green button or any button for that matter.

I have a 96 Limited and the remote is black…. the green button is referring to is on the side of the unit where you can reset your remote.

I also have a 98 Limited the remote is corrected grey.

That looks OEM. Can we get less blurry pics of what it says? The OEM is usually attached to the floor with a ziptie. The box might be gray. It's hard for me to remember since I never really see that box in good lighting.

I can get some tomorrow.
Part of it says rs3000 and some other numbers after that. Looks like a serial # or something like that.

There is a green button somewhere... unless it broke off or something. You need that button to program the remotes.

I think the FCC ID on the box will tell you which remote is needed. I got generic replacements off ebay to replace my OEM remotes. The OEM's are very fragile compared to my ebay remotes.

That's exactly what my box looks like. I'm going to take a closer look to look for the green button Tomorrow. I just did a quick look. I was just excited to see that i did have the box. Lol

I have the extremely rare (from trying to research and not finding hardly anything about it) rs2000 system in my 96 sr5. it is a keyless entry system with no alarm.

I have the OEM keyless on my '97. That thing is loaded for an SR5. Has a little black keychain remote, I'd say if you could find a remote you could get it to work.

Ok so sorry for the dumb questions lastnight. Just had a long day. But now that I got a chance to look at the unit it is great if it matters and I found the green button. So now I just have to get the remote for it.

So I just ordered them I'm just hoping that it works. The FCC # on my unit is a 129 and the only remotes I found were these which are the 022. I read on a thread on yotatech that it has worked just fine before. So I'm hoping it doesn't. Kind excited about finally having a keyless entry again. I've had it I every truck I've owned before until this one.

I'll post and update once I get them in.

Nonono, you read it wrong. I have a 1996. My dad dropped the key fob in our driveway sometime back in 1997 and it cracked. We just used the other fob we had but even that cracked pretty badly over time. LOL. Those Ebay fobs are pretty nice for the price. An OEM is $80 dollars I think vs $15 for the Ebay, much easier to accept if you ever drop it on the ground.
