Is there a locking rear diff on the trail/trail premium?

I feel like I had seen a button on the left side of the dash to lock in the rear differential. Is this an option on the Trails or standard equipment?

It's standard on the '14 Trail Premium and the button is up near the rear view mirror. I can't speak to the SR5 or non Premium.

The whole function of a locker is to "lock" the rotation of the two wheels on that axle plane so they both turn together no matter what. In this case, both rear wheels. They turn in sync even if one of them is up in the air. Lifting a rear tire is common if offroading, not in street driving, therefore, it's an offroading feature.

Some rigs like my '03 4Runner V8 Sport had traction control which sensed wheel spin and would apply the brake on that spinning wheel which would allow the tire on the ground to push you forward. That system worked pretty good but is not nearly as good as a locker. The '03 had to have some wheel spin to engage. With a locker, no wheel spin is required because the two wheels are already locked together and that allows you to creep along and walk right over stuff with no wheel spin.
