Is there a longer lasting Ashtray Bulb?

I believe our 3rd gen 4runners use a #74 bulb for the ashtray. But I have to replace mine about every 2-3 months. They just don't last?!?

Does anyone know of an alternative to the typical Sylvania bulbs found at local auto parts places? Maybe a heavy duty type bulb or an LED?

Do you think that might fit? I saw it before posting up, but the shape is too odd looking to think it'll work. It does say "74" though. I haven't found anything else though,, so I may give it a shot.

These guys have slightly better prices on the LED bulbs if you are not sure it is going to work at least you will spend a little less.
I also had a question about one of there bulbs and they responded right away.

I went with LED, and did the entire Gauge cluster, shifter light, Ashtray, Cig lighter, and AC/Heat controls too....

Here's the list of bulbs I used in my 98.... newer T4R's might have different applications....

I spent around $50.00 or so to do the entire job.... and still very happy with the results, and the quality of the bulbs from LED Lights, Bulbs & Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS

Just copy and paste the bulb types I listed above, into their search engine... and you're good to go!

haha, me either. I didn't even know there was a light in it until I opened it for the first time last week.

I just happened to be in the middle of an LED conversion, so I have some of these laying around. Here's a pic of the 74-GHP3 next to the normal bulb. It worked. There's plenty of room in the housing. Oh, and thanks. I didn't even know there was a bulb there. Now I have to order another one for the gearshift light.

Auto. The one that lights up the P RNDL part down on the lower console. It's under there somewhere...I haven't torn it apart yet to look!

Why, Why LED. It's not a cluster or some other gauge, it's a f'n ashtrab bulb. Spend the 6$, OEM with green cap and install it. it'll last another 20 years unlike those cheap aftermarket LED's you're all putting in.

So it came right out...just needed a bit of force.

Strangely enough....the light doesnt' turn on.

even after you've replaced it? could be a fuse or broken wire.

If you haven't replaced it yet it's probably just burnt out.

I tried 2 diff kinds of bulbs...led and regular. Both won't turn on.

lol oh well....i guess i won' be able to see those ashes at night...
