On some cars I've owned you can turn the rear hatch lock one way to unlock and another to roll down the rear window. My new to me 02 Sport doesn't do that and I'm wondering if it should, or if there is a mod to make it happen? Or an external switch? I do not have the original fob either.
Is there a way to roll down the rear window from outside?

I have this same problem with my 2000 where the key doesn't work to roll it down, would my aftermarket stereo have anything to do with that?

Your aftermarket radio shouldn't have anything to do with it. I've had multiple aftermarket radios installed over time and none of them have affected it.

Does it have to be a master key to roll the window down externally?
On the 4th gen, if you disconnect the battery, you have to open and hold, close and hold (or a combination of 1 or the other) from the interior button before the keyfob will work.
Something something about it relearning something.

It may have to be a master, the valet is just slightly different at the very bottom,(doesn’t have a little bump out) you may need a master to operate
I will try to confirm.

It absolutely has to be a master key. Master key can do everything on the truck. Operate the rear window, start the truck, open the doors, and open the glovebox. The Valet key cannot operate the rear window or open the glovebox.

I had to go to Toyota, but, from what I understand, a locksmith can perform the same service. I paid around $300, which included an overpriced key. You have to get your ECU re programmed. I still remember what Toyota said to "sell" me. They said I could get one free reprogam of my ECU. They told me it was $180 but the total bill was close to $300.

Hmm, what's this about one free ECU re-programming?
At some point the master key vanished. I have a metal non-transponder key which works to do almost everything but having a true master key would be convenient.

A local mobile locksmith cut me a transponder master key using the VIN number,
Programmed chip in key on the machine he had in his van. $65.00

I ordered 2 OEM uncut keys online from dealer near me $18ea, paid $5ea cut at Toyota dealer and programmed myself. Works perfect starts as should and opens rear window as expected.
Since you have only valet youll have to go locksmith route. I encourage though to get more than 1 master cut though.

Couple things:
1. You only need to a transponder key if your truck is setup for it. ('99+ Limiteds, maybe some others)
2. The key configuration can be figured out from a lock cylinder.
If you don't have a transponder key truck (most of them!), just go to the dealer with your VIN and proof of ownership. It'll be like $20 for a new key.

PS. The valet key for non-transponder trucks will be all metal...
