Hmm, what's this about one free ECU re-programming?

At some point the master key vanished. I have a metal non-transponder key which works to do almost everything but having a true master key would be convenient.

Not needed if an all-metal key starts your truck.

ECU programming is only needed if you have a transponder truck.

Just called my dealer...American Toyota in Albuquerque. "Unfortunately because you only have the valet key we will not be able to get the car in to program mode. So to put it into program mode, that'll be a $250.00 charge, then we can cut the key and charge you for that too."

No transponder key! Locksmith cut me a master key for $5.00 and now I can lock my glove box and rolled down my back window!

That's normal. Only Limiteds have the transponder system... (at least on the '99/'00 years, I'm not 100% sure on the later models, no '96-'98 models had it)
