I am looking to lift the 4Runner about 3 inches. Is there a real difference between all the base level kits out ther? I have vome across Eibach, Icon stage 1, and the TRD pro lift. Does it just come down to who you like and looks?

You're missing some still.

It really depends on what you want to do with it. Decide on that first, then for from there. You should read all the main threads on lifts.

I decided to go with Dobinson's. It is getting installed in about a week.

dude u have been registered here on this forum for 4 years. somehow you apparently learned nothing or stayed under a rock for nearly that entire time and then created 12 super****ing useless threads in the last 8 weeks. search, find related, add to the existing discussions about all these fuggin topics that are available with enough reading to make you dizzy.

i honestly thought you were a troll at first, but now i just think you're ****ing dumb. you have a 2 threads asking if 2019 4R is 5th Gen. jebus****inchristbrah

please no one entertain this jackass with information. go figure it out.

Im an old guy and I''ve been in auto, motorcycle and bicycle racing for years. The topic of spending money on mods hits close to home because I've spent thousands if not hundreds of thousands on my hobbies. The constant that I've found is that there are garbage tier products, mid tier products and high end products. The price between garbage tier and mid tier is typically small and affordable. The price between mid tier and high end is exorbitant. The jump in quality and performance from a mid-tier to high end product is basically fighting for inches. I can go buy a $4,000 mountain bike or a $10,000 mountain bike and there will be millisecond differences in my lap times. Im paying CRAZY money for a bunch of technology that saves ounces and provides slightly higher rigidity. Its the same in auto racing, off road performance, etc. You are paying absolute premiums for "inches" in performance.

In my opinion its the same across all automotive hobbies. If you buy a mid tier lift and a very high end lift in the same category you are going to get performance improvements that are so insignificant its hard to measure for exponentially more money. YES you can spend more and get custom or high stage suspension but thats not a like for like comparisson. In addition the vast majority wont use the capabilities. If you need extreme level performance (high articulation or high speed suspension requirements that need resevoir cooling) then you should pay for a custom suspension setup or a high stage suspension system. In my 20 years of offroad driving I've NEVER experienced shock fade but I dont do high speed off road like baja. If you arent going to be at the extreme a $5,000 lift is not going to be any "better" for you and your requirements than a $2,000 lift in the same category.

At the end of the day the poster above that said "what type of driving do you do" is really critical to answer your question. If you plan to race in the hammers, yeah you are going to need to spend every penny you get and probably pick a different vehicle (ie buy a tube bender). If you plan to go camping and drive fire roads you probably should get a mid tier lift and call it a day.

Yes I have been a member for 4 years, but I just got my 1st 4Runner in February. Also if this message board wasn't so disorganized and topics were easier to find I wouldn't have asked all the question. Thanks for the help though. you are a real team player, I bet you are a blast at parties.

big difference between a spacer kit and a long travel suspension kit, and everything else in between.

It all depends on what you want to do and what budget you want to spend on your suspension bling

Maybe make this post a mandatory first post to all suspension threads and then close this one, lol. :first:

And the same can be said of so many other things in life. Gotta really know when fighting for those last milliseconds will make a difference in the long run and when best is the enemy of good.

What are some mid tier lifts would you recommend?

For starters make sure you are buying American made monotube shocks. That’s certainly a step in the right direction.

Ryan

I gave up trying trying to get that info out, people still wanna run 1980's twin tube shocks.

Also, your FB page posted the f250 with your new leveling kit, gorgeous truck, i'm biased as mine is the same color and also leveled lol.

Xreas is vastly different from the others in my opinion. Less body role around corners and good road handling without compromising much articulation off road.

Read the stickies and learn to google. Many do not create new (duplicate) threads and have been able to google their way back to this forum for info related to any topic. Your topics are not unique. This forum iis disorganized bc of ppl like you. You are not being a team player. I stand by everything I said.

Again, u literally created two separate threads “R 19 4R 5G”. How is that not the catalyst for disorganization and difficult to locate information? I often jump in pointing ppl to existing threads for guidance which hopefully helps close the loop for searchers going down rabbit holes of 45 different bilstein 5100 threads for example. But you are too much. Especially to be so ignorant as not to know you are the cause of the problems you complain about.

So...the TRD pro lift is not 3 inches......Not all lifts are built the same. Just open your wallet and pick a color for your lift! Easy sauce.

My opinion is to skip spacers and go straight to coilovers. Go Checkout Toytec, your going to find what fits your needs.

my opinion is either buy a good quality basic suspension lift that will run you around $1200 (dobinsons, emu, 6112/5160 from bilstein, etc) or buy Kings with adjustable compression. Everything in the middle isn't worth it.

Having owned suspension that spans the gamut… there is absolutely a difference between brands and different types of equipment.

Good advice from past responses is knowing how you intend on using the truck. If you can start and know what you trying to accomplish, you can make informed decision and pick the right system along with manage expectations.

Thank you everyone for all the things to look into. The main purpose of this 4Runner will be work. I am in real estate. 2nd overlanding and exploring the Gulf Coast. I had pucks/ blocks on my xterra and it was nice for the little extra lift but I wanted UCA and coils but that never happened. I think I have found what I am looking for.

TTBOSS-4R210 - ToyTec BOSS Suspension System for 10+ 4Runner and GX460

I can add UCA's later and it is a actual lift. I have read a ton of great thing about Icons stages but this seems to be what I am looking for I will wait to see if they bring back the red coils.
