Is this a good deal? 2006 Sport Edition 4x4 V8 Sport Edition?

Feedback would be great. This vehicle has all service records and the rear bumper has been replaced in minor accident when she backed into a stump. It is the original owner, and she paid 37,000. The tires are almost shot and they there are some minor scuffs on the rear quarter panel. The car has 43,000 miles. The seller is asking $21,000, firm. I am thinking about offering 19,500 unless the $21,000 seems fair. The car blue books, fair at 22,300 but edmunds prices it as 18,900. The interior is probably 7 out of 10 and the exterior 8 out of 10. It has all options a sport would have except navigation. It seemed to run nice. The v8s are sweet!

I know she is not going to go that low... she seems stubborn. The demand for 4runners is crazy in western oregon so the prices I think stay a little higher than most.

Slightly OT: How much do people kick off the dealers asking price? on 24,000 SR5 4x4, certified... would you talk them down to $18000?

It's no deal but it's not a bad price. I'd offer $18500, but if you're really sold on this one, tell her $19500 and don't budge. I paid $17,000 for mine 5 years ago off the original owner, w/35,000 miles on it then, an '03 SE. I would bring up the matter of the scuffs and replaced bumper, and say that's an issue for you. Make sure you get the VIN to run a Carfax to make sure everything checks out, regardless of her being the original owner.

If she says no to your offer, wait it out and I bet she'll get in touch with you to try to work something out, if not accept what you offer. I also doubt someone will buy it so quickly, especially now.

Look around on Craigslist and Ebay to get an idea of what's a good deal. NADA/KBB aren't always helpful because of what a car is and how the times are. KBB is way off with the price for my SVT Cobra, for example.

Don't be afraid to show her what you find (other ads, etc) to prove your point and that your offer is fair. If she declines or gets angry, walk away; it's not worth your time IMO. There are others out there. Why not get a deal since this isn't something that's super rare? Unless you're in dire need of a 4Runner, then I'd wait it out and search more.

18,500 is what I orginally thought but then bluebook had the rate so high, I thought that might not be reasonable. I know she has gotten some low ballers already at around $15,000 that she said were dealerships wanting to buy. I am thinking about trying the $18,500 then waiting.... I don't see many of the V8s in this year with this low of mileage so I am a little antsy.

A good deal is a state of mind.
If you really want it, you may not get it as cheap as you would like. Personally, I think 21,000 seems about what a dealer would put it at - a bit high for private sale. Obviously this woman drives like ****, so I would not expect it to have been babied or exceptionally well maintained.

Here is Southern Oregon, 4Runners and Toyota 4WD in general, can be seen at every major intersection. Popular choice in the mountains. I do not see many in used car lots. Good luck with your purchase.

Ran, I know! It is crazy.. I headed out to the coast the other day and saw literally about 40 4th generation 4runners.... That is why I don't want to low ball her too much. I have noticed the turnover at dealerships here is about 3 weeks. There was a 2005 sport edition with 75000 miles list at 18,500 and it is now gone... I am not sure what it sold for.

I can't wait to get another 4runner, it has been 6 years since I owned a '93 4runner with 33in an 4 inch suspension lift. I won't be modding this one.....

I bought my 06 SR5 with 18k miles this past August with Leather & Navigation,Lojack & Toyotal Total care Platinum 7yr./84k warranty for $16k
owner was asking $18500.

seems kinda high, i bought my '06 limited v8 in may '09 for 19500.00 with 53000 miles from a toyota dealer and it was certified.

maybe its the are you live in, i do know that does make a difference.

That seems hight for a 2006 to me, more than I would pay anyway. I live in Phoenix, AZ. 4Runners seem very expensive out West to me. I was shopping for awhile for a 2006-2009 T4R 4WD, and was willing to fly somewhere for a better deal, as I have done in the past for vehicles.

So this last Thursday I just bought my T4R, a 2009 SR5 4WD, V6, 43,800 miles, pretty well equipped, sunroof, AM-FM Stereo w/steering wheel controls, automatic climate control and computer mileage thingy, etc. Got it for $22,998, about $3000 back of book and that includes the deduct for the high miles on the car, I bought it in Houston, TX and just drove it 1200 miles home. It runs out great, and I got 21-22 mpg going 70-80 mph on the trip back.

I go wherever the deal is to buy my vehicles. Interestingly, I ended up buying my last Toyota in Texas also, a Highlander, that one in Dallas, Texas. For me anyway, there seem to be better Toyota prices in Texas than in the West where I live. My general observation in shopping online is that the more reasonable prices for T4R's were from the Middle of the Country to the East Coast, with higher prices from the middle of the country to the West Coast.

BTW, market-wise, the V8 option seems to be neutral. I don't think it brings any premium over the V6. Just my opinion after a lot of T4R price shopping.
