2001 Toyota 4runner sport

I talked to the guy he said two people are coming out tomorrow and friday to test drive it and make an offer. Hmmm. I wonder if he's just saying that to sale it faster? I'm kinda concerned since he said that he's moving to Central America. Usually when people say they're moving out the country thats usually a scam right? He has service records and the timing belts been changed. He's asking 6900.Bluebook has these going for 5500. Should I offer 6k? These sport editions are kinda rare around here.

If it's call or text only, most likely not a scam. Scams won't have records or anything either.

Bluebook has it at $5500? Sounds way low to me. I wouldn't sell my '97 with 190K for that price.
 
I paid 5900 for my 01 4x4 with trd sc but it had 210000 miles on it. But everything was in perfect shape. All the service records and timing belt done, clean car fax and abadass kenwood head unit with nav. So I think 6900 is a bit high
And mine is a sport edition too
 
I'm gonna head out there tomorrow and check it out. I think I'm gonna offer him something in the 6000-6500 range. The mileage does concern me though but its really hard to find a 01-02 black sport edition thats decent.
 
Something to keep in mind as well is the fact that it's a 2wd. I know some of you are also throwing numbers out there with your 4wd T4Rs but, that may also come into play when negotiating.
 
$5500 is not low for a "2WD" with 166K on it I don't think.
If it were 4WD then yes, it would easily be worth the asking price.

I paid $7700 for mine with 158K miles about 9-10 months ago, 2002 Sport Edition 4X4 everything in excellent shape, already lifted 3" with OME springs, new shocks, new tires, new FJ cruiser rims, 199mm Tundra brake mod, rear diff breather mod, deckplate mod and all records from 2004 to date for every single service and part that was over 3" thick in a folder.

I was doing back flips when I found it because everything that I had looked at for about 5-6 weeks was pure garbage and they wanted on average $8,000.
The only decent 4 Runners I even laid eyes on in my local area for 6 weeks was at Carmax of which all their used cars have less than 115K miles on them and the lowest priced one started at $13,000

So $7700 for what to me is the best year and model of the 3rd gens with all mods I wanted already done complete with new tires etc. I almost felt like it was a stick up when I bought it.
 
IMO, the ad looks legit. I'd still do an autocheck or carfax to make sure the title history and other history checkout. Keep in mind there are always others looking for these things but it's easy for the seller to say others are interested - you just never know for sure. I had the same situation with mine. It was 5 hours away and the seller said he had someone from 5 hours away in the other direction coming to look at it the next day. I figured if it was "as represented" in the ad and pictures, someone coming from that far away probably had plans to buy unless there was a reason found not to, just as I had planned as well. So, I didn't have a lot of room to bargain, unless I was willing to set a max price and just let it go if he wouldn't take it. On mine, the asking price was the max I would pay, so I didn't have to lowball and hope he'd take it. I just had to get there first with money in hand.
 
I also agree that it looks legit for a 2wd Runner with those stats. I would even say it's a little high, but it would probably be going for more than that here.
 
What everyone else has said. I'd take it to a trusted mechanic, though, and have him go over it in detail, ESPECIALLY if the guy is moving out of the country.

x2... I wouldn't pay that much for a 2WD. Yeah it looks like a really nice one, but the 2WD is a killer for me. That said, I don't think it is a great deal, even in that condition. Fair to good maybe, but not great.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I'll see if he wants to take it to the local Toyota dealership to check things out before I purchase it. If he says no, I'm leaving.

I gotta be honest, though; I found out the 'good' way that sometimes the cruddy ads are the ones worth following up on. My own 4Runner was advertised on Craigslist in Springfield, MO; I flat out told the guy when I saw the 4Runner "Dude....those pictures sucked. They did not do your 4Runner justice." LOL Someone was looking out for us; he advertised a 2000 4Runner SR5 4x4; what he had was a 2000 4Runner SR5 Highlander 4x4. Still sold it for the same price, though.

Haha yeah the pictures posted on craigslist did look a little crappy but as soon as I was turning the corner I knew I had to have it. The mileage is kinda high but I know tons of guys on the forum who bought ones with over 200k without any problems. Tomorrow I'm gonna post pics for sure!

The only problem I found was that the radio doesn't work. He told me the antenna doesn't go up so thats why AM/FM doesn't work. Thats probably a simple fix. Right?

Nice! Looking forward to seeing it. It's most likely the mast. They were notorious for breaking. You can do the Tacoma whip mod or you can replace the mast itself if you want to keep the auto antenna option.
