Is this a good price for a '98 4runner?

My cousins neighbor is selling his. This much I know:

"'98 SR5
161,350 miles
-sun roof/moon roof
-power windows/power locks
-roof rack
-trailer hitch.

The oil has been changed every 3000 miles and will be due at 163,000. It will be due for inspection in September. Asking $3,800."

KBB says that price is high. Nada and Edmunds have that pric as fair to low.

What I don't know yet is the last time any major service has been done (if any). Also haven't seen it in person or test driven it, but I will in a day or two.

What should I check for at this mileage? Is there any service that def should have been performed at this point that I can use as a bargaining chip? (timing belt/waterpump/trans flush, etc).

$3,800 is not too bad, but it does have a little bit of mileage, isn't a 4x4 and isn't Limited. So that is what reduces its price a little. Its an SR5 so it has Limited like features. I would look into if he has gotten/done his timing belt, water pump, tensioners, pulleys, lower ball joints, and possibly upper ball joints. If none of that has been done, I would hit them with $3,000-$3,200.

Ask if its been in any collisions. I wanted to make a joke and say, "Get the CarFax," but their useless. If the oil was maintenanced regularly, that is huge. Engine slug can prematurely kill a motor. Just get on your hands and knees and inspect it heavily. Take her for a spin and drive it like you stole it. Most sounds occur once the engine has warmed up. So don't let them drive you around the block and stop.

It may be 4wd, i'm waiting on word back from the owner. If it's 2wd i'll pass.

Where is the 4R located? I'm assuming somewhere within the tri-state area. Check for rust underneath and the tailgate as well.
