Is this a leaking high or low pressure line into my steering rack?

Have had a small PS leak for a while now and it's starting to get worse. Finally traced the source of the leak. Not 100% sure if it's the high pressure line into the rack or the low pressure return line. Since I do have a leak from that fitting does that usually mean a bad line or a bad steering rack? I have pics below and I marked where the actual leak is coming from. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

That is the low pressure return side

But man that looks rusted all to nuggets. It’s going to be hard to get that baby out.

This s the entire line

Sure you can find it cheaper if you search around. I have replaced both the lines in my truck and it’s not a lot of fun.

So that return line fitting clamps into the hose for the return and then screws into the steering rack? Is this right? This is gonna be my first time tackling anything like this. Just did LBJ, UBJ, inner and outter tie rode and saw bar bushings and links tho.

And yes it's a rusty mess. If I have to pull the rack to get to those lines out im leaning towards replacing the rack also. Truck has 250k miles and I'm pretty sure that's the original rack

correct

I took a shot of this when I did mine.

you can see the spring clamp on the low side, it's just slid way up and out of the way before I installed it. I had to remove the rack mounting bolts and slide the rack back, then installed the lines into the rack but don't mount the lines to the frame until you get the rack/lines screwed and set up.

after the lines are secured then you can slide the rack back into place and do the line mounts. that is how it works for me. it's tight in there.

make sure you get the copper crush washer for the power steering pump send side. you might be able to re-use yours but.... crush washer don't always like to be re-used.

I used the energy suspension poly bush set for my rack and it makes the steering much tighter.

I re-used my rack but mine was in pretty good shape, you might want to try to flush out the rack/pump and clean out the pump canister. I have 2x T4R a 1997 and a 2000. the 1997 is a winter beater and I flushed out the fluid last fall. made a huge difference in how well the steering functioned.

Thx for the help. Ordered new lines, return line fitting and bushing for the rack. Gonna hold off on replacing the rack for now. Plan on just cutting the lines and pulling the entire rack out and hopefully then get those fittings off.

I have done two of the flushes and on both the screen in the reservoir was so clogged I don't know how any fluid got thru it. No need to start the vehicle, just lift the tires off the ground and turn it side to side and the fluid will come.
