Is this a surge or short??

3 months ago I checked the bulb and the right wire at the connector was burned and broken, and the plastic around it was melted. The last few times I checked the bulb, the right side wire connection was not burned and broken, but the plastic around it is melted. The deformation caused by this pulls the bulb plug contact wire away from the opposing contact in the socket, causing a fast blink.

I wasn’t sure if this was caused by the blinker action, or the constant of the parking light. I noticed that with the headlights in the ON mode selected, the parking lights aren’t on, so I ran it that way for a little over a month with no issues, but about a week after switching the lights back to AUTO mode, I burned and melted another contact.

So, I feel confident that I’ve accurately determined that the bulb will burn and melt ONLY I leave my lights on AUTO, but I have no idea why.

The next thing to check is voltage. What voltage should I be getting at the blinker socket in parking light mode and when blinking?

How does the socket look? That will only happen with a poor connection which causes too much resistance which in turn causes heat. How about the wire feeding the light? Does it get warm before it gets to the socket?

Not sure. I’ll compare the two front sockets and report back.

Thanks

Also when it gets to the point where it is arching, that charring you see on the light bulb will also be present in the socket. Both pieces of metal involved in the arching will be charred.

Admittedly, besides the fact that there are spring contact points that may be too flat, I can’t tell what might be wrong here...

looks like bad connection, i would replace the whole light and harness. you can either cut of the old harness and splice in the new, or replace the whole thing with factory plugs which cost more i think.
