Is this normal for my rear wheel wells??

Well i was just taking a look around my 4runner after being in the snow, dirt and gravel just to make sure everything looked good and i realized, my rear wheel wells are different!
This is my passenger rear:



And then here is my driver side rear:



For some reason the driver side has some sort of extra panel, possibly added protection for the gas fill tube? Or has the one on my passenger side disappeared?

It's normal. My 2016 TE is the same.

Fuel fill neck protection, nothing to worry about.

I recently noticed that on mine, and thought something got left off when the mudflap was replaced a while back. Glad to know that isn't the case.

Right that was my first thought, did my truck miss an assembly step and then i realized that the gas fill runs right behind that wheel well where that extra protection is. Glad we can bring some peace of mind!

As others have said: totally normal. I think of it as a fancy rock collector, and usually use an old screw driver to clean it out while washing.
