Is TRD PRO worth the cash?

I do agree that Group 1 probably is blue collar and does not go into work on the weekends and does not recognize the theory of "opportunity costs" and most likely has a poorly funded 101(k).

Group 2 most likely is comprised of white collar types with in demand skills that precludes them from wasting their time "wrenching" on their vehicles because their time is more valuable pursuing more lucrative endeavors that help them overfund their 401(k).

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

I fall under group 2 and thoroughly enjoy doing my own installations.

Some people just don't get it! I BUY my wine, whiskey, beer, suits, selvedge denim, 6000sq. ft. house,etc., etc.. I spend my time making money to buy what I want, actually I don't work anymore, but let's pretend I do!

You're right we're talking about an inexpensive vehicle, a mere drop in the bucket for some (me).

They are all 4Runners however and I heartily accept each and every one into the warmth of my heart. I do believe the PRO's running around are new entrants to the off-road scene, but that's just fine - it's a great vehicle. You do have those 1 or 2 members here that bought a PRO to only rip out the suspension and mod it heavily, but they are just a few.

Not a damn thing wrong with either group. It’s Group 3 who act like buying the exact same truck but with different shocks and badges is the same comparison as say buying a Shelby instead of a stock mustang that are so insufferable.

You got a 5th Gen 4Runner. Period!

Not all of us consider wrenching wasting time - for some of us it’s a passion. We get just as much enjoyment from being greasy under the truck as we do on the trail. We are known to all our friends as the car guy/gal - giving out advise, fixing things, etc. because it’s something we enjoy. To us cars are pieces of art - not in the sense that they are meant to be museum pieces but we appreciate the design and capability of what they are and in most cases the passion that other owners have put into them making it their own. I have no musical talents so a Stradivarius to me has no more value than an electric violin. However, it doesn’t mean I don’t understand and appreciate there are others who do have those passions. Passions have no boundaries of profession or social status.

Agreed. Biggest draw to a limited besides the luxury options IMO (maybe depending on where you live) would be the all time 4wd

How ironic, I am watching the Mecum auction in Kissimmee, Florida when a 429 Shelby Mustang crosses the block and the announcer says (not quoting) It is pretty easy to replicate this technically and cosmetically, but you have to have the "paperwork."

I suspect it is also why no one with a 14 line listing of the modifications they have made to their 4Runner will venture to guess the value of their pet vehicle?
 
I doubt anyone modding their truck is doing so for the value - and your post implies that a TRD Pro vehicle will be a collectiable - which is highly debatable.

I am not proclaiming that a TRD Pro is a collectible (not "collectiable")!!!!

What I am saying is that you can't say that you spent $2000-$2500 in cash (or maxed out your credit card) and expended whatever amount of your spare time and ended up with a vehicle that is worth a negligible amount more than you paid for it and say "I saved money!" Does anyone on this Forum have any real economic sense????
 
Two things:

1. We just got my wife a new Highlander. It cost more than the 4Runner Pro. A Highlander lol.

2. My friend just got a 2018 4Runner SR5. He keeps it in his hangar in Colorado so when he flies his Citation out to his house he has a vehicle to use.

My point? A TRD Pro is not a prestige vehicle, nor is it expensive. If you want One, get it. Have fun with it. Don't knock others who mod their 4Runner to look like a Pro. It's no big.deal.

I work 8+ hours a day travel, 1 1/2 or 2 hours each way (depends on traffic) and I have 2 young boys that plays sports. I can forget my beautiful bride. I have no time to wrench after work or on the weekends. To modify my vehicle.
I have $ but I don't to waste it. (That's why I have the $) like on a cool color or the WOW factor.
On paper the Trail and PRO should perform the same.
In my area of country I can buy both new under sticker and the used maket is the same (example 2016 Trail premium with 23k miles for $35k and a Inferno red PRO with 35K miles for $39k)
I started this post to see if I was missing something that paper doesn't show ?
I would like to thank everyone input, it has helped me
