Is your 4th gen your forever vehicle? Why or why not?

Ive been thinking about this alot, Was lookign at older land cruisers due to the dual lockers and ability to swap with a GM crate engine and drive train. Not sure if 4th gen should be sold now and move into something that is more of a long term project . My goals and a road worthy and offroad capable rig.

but cant you just keep it going forever if you want to, when is he Drop moment? Whenthe engine needs rebuilding? by tyhen it wont be worth much. If you really like the 460 why not get it now or soon., and get what you can for the 4runner

Thought so at first, after getting a 5th gen for the wife I think I will keep that and sell the 4th gen once she wants something with 3rd row seating for herself.

Wish the frames didn't rust so easily on these things.

I thought this at first also. But here is the deal, you can get a brand new GM motor and drivetrain with 100k warranty. Thats 450HP 3 times that of the original engine and twice the torque. you can still go in to any dealer in the nation and have it serviced. check out TLC 4x4 . they do the conversions, Its probably just as reliable as the 1Z. Not sure but I think I would sacrifice that tiny bit more reliability to have a beast of an engine.

Forever? Doubt it...but the plan is to drive mine for as long as I can. The wife has a 5th gen, so once it's time for her to upgrade (5+ years from now hopefully), I'll probably sell my 4th gen and take over driving hers.

i could keep my 4th gen as long as i can and avoid a monthly payment. i just have to keep up with maintenance and rust proofing the frame.

I took my Runner into the dealer a few months ago for an alignment (they actually do a REALLY good job) and when I went back to pick it up, the used car salesman was there and asked if I was interested in trading it for a low mileage '16...even wanted to give me $10K for it. I politely declined, but with 166K on the clock, I'm wondering if I should go ahead and pull the trigger before the value starts to drop too much more.

I'm the original owner and it's tough...lots of good times in my '08 and it still runs like a top! (not to mention the lack of a car note to pay )

155,000 plus miles on her, and she is still running strong. This truck will go to my daughter when she starts driving. White I grab the new model 4runner haha!!

Probably, atleast until the government says I can't drive a gasoline powered vehicle anymore.

I think I'd be hard pressed to find something that handles and drives the way I like, better than my 4Runner does. Mind you it's no race car, but it has nice road feedback and good steering feel, handles corners ok, and I adore the Full Time 4WD.

Further, it's a capable offroad vehicle while still being able to haul down the highway at breakneck speeds, AND able to pull 7000lbs.

It pretty well defines versatile. While it's not excellent at anything in particular, it's pretty good at everything.

Since BC's insurance rates dictate owning only one vehicle, I'd rather have this one than any other I'm aware of on the market.

I've had mine for 15 years and do not plan to change anytime soon. 175K miles, V8, 4x4, never let me down. I'd like to get to 250K.

The only thing that would cause a change is a 6th gen 4Runner ... if the new model looks like an upgrade I might buy one to get another 15+ years of trouble-free motoring and light off-roading. But if I don't like it, then I'd feel compelled to buy one of the last of the 5th gens. But with no 6th gen in sight, keep on driving the 4th gen forever.

I recently purchased a 5th gen....it's a great vehicle, but I find myself reaching for the keys to the 4th gen on any given day. My only worry is the V8 for her first car.

I agree. I have both gens too and the 5th gen is inferior performance wise IMO. The 5th seems to be a little cheaper quality too.

I hate the undercarriage rust on mine, it would be perfect otherwise(well almost).

We will absolutely be keeping ours until there's no way to do upkeep. I plan on giving her to our oldest daughter when she's ready for a car. Then, I plan on getting another 4th Gen. My wife is ready to get out of her van-- as soon as the older two girls are driving and wants an older Range Rover. She loves our 4th Gen, though, and is caught between having three of them in the family or two and a Range Rover. Hmmmm.....

I don't know what the cutoff period would be, we're still enjoying this one too much! And we've put many thousands into making it exactly how we like it.
