You can aim higher than that lol...I just cracked 250k this month and she's got no signs of slowing down (even after I neglected it big-time as a college student). Owned mine for 10, second owner though. A few grumbles here and there that I need to take care of but it's been stupid cold out until recently which makes them louder.

I want to keep mine as long as possible, but there is a point where you have to throw in the towel. For me, that will be rust on the frame.
I hate grine/salt. HATE IT. worse than mayonnaise.

I would say yes, I personally have 4th gen with 99,000 miles and plan on sticking with it till it dies.
I bought my 4Runner new, and have had it 13 years. I'm approaching 150,000 and plan on doing some maintenance on it to keep it running like new. My plan is to give it a new paint job at 15 years old, and maybe keep it 20 years. I'm 39 and bought it new when I was 26. I'm not sure if my next 4runner will be brand new since I've seen how reliable they are, but I also like the idea of a brand new 4Runner because i know exactly how it was taken care of.

I don't think this one is my 4ever vehicle, but it's my fourth 4Runner, and my second 4th gen.
My current truck is an '05 with 180k miles on it and I expect to have to replace it at some point (New England salt and rust is hard on these trucks).
I hope to replace it with the newest, low mileage, V8 4th Gen 4Runner I can find when the time comes. i;ll go south or out west to bring one back that's not all rusty.
This platform is just perfect for my use. Right size inside and out, right fuel economy, right power, right ability on and offroad, super reliable.

He meant the crate engine which is basically a brand new engine with zero mileage. Not sure if you can get a brand new engine for older Land Cruiser

Its not any particular generation
its that its a 4runner. Ive owned more 4runners than any other vehicle and everytime i buy something else i always end up selling it and buying another 4runner.
In regard to the LC. I dont know anyone who uses their LC as a daily driver. Most are weekend rigs and money holes..

I used to buy a new car every 3 years max, have even been known to trade every year.
But I cannot seem to find anything I like that is better than my old reliable, comfy, and capable, almost stealth, 4Runner.
Looked at the new Highlander w/ 8 speed auto trans which looks to still be problematic as is the 9 speed german tranny in some of the Honda/Acura SUV's (they are even replacing engine and trans both in some of these due to coolant/trans fluid mix).
Would like to try the highlander 300+hp hybrid but none instock in TX (no demand).
I hate these backwards steps that automakers take.
I'd buy a Mazda Cx9 if it had a better engine (4cyl wheezer just won't do)
Jeeps and Ford - can't shake my opinion of them being junk
The bigger Subaru's have a V6, but inferior warranty and quality problems (unusual for Japanese makes) and a CVT (yuk).
Going to give the GMC / Chevy models another look.
So far I've been mighty tempted by a couple of LX460's I've seen but they are all in distant cities and getting old and I want a new truck.
What would you buy at under $50,000 drive out price ?

Haha a new trd pro, a gently used gx460, or maybe wait for the next gen 4runner to come out. Should only be a year or two

Current 4th gen 1st time owner. I will eventually move to a newer year/model. The great thing about the 4r is the versatility with mods and travel. The worst is the MPG as it's my DD and I do a lot of travel but you take the good with the bad. The quality and reliability is another big factor.

I've had my 4Runner for just over 4 years. It has 127k on it, got it with 85k on it. It is not going anywhere anytime soon. The only unexpected repairs have been a brake caliper and alternator.
It's great in the snow, good offroad, good onroad, tows my 4000 lb boat well and is big enough most anything my wife and I need to haul. I don't DD it so the gas doesn't kill me and the miles aren't getting racked up too quickly.

my mom has a 3rd gen with 215k, I have 279k on my 4th gen and I bought it from co springs with 267k on it. Super happy with it camping, daily driven, easy maintenance, extensive mod list I want to do. Never failed me offroad (not rock crawling just mild to mod trails). I suggest looking at a t4r for my friends looking for new vehicles

I'll stick with my 4th gen until I win the lottery and/or they redesign the front end of the newer model? That giant grille on all the Toyotas (Tundra, Tacoma, 4runner) looks kind of dumb to me.
My truck is far from a show truck (It's never been waxed and rarely washed) but I keep it mechanically sound and have upgraded tires/suspension a bit to make it more capable offroad. That's about all I plan to do. Now I'll just drive it until it's no longer cost effective to do so.
