I remember reading the "black box" recorders were added to the 2011s and on, but I don't think the 10s have them. Not sure if that is true.

This is not a new issue; although as onboard vehicle computers evolve the question is can your car testify against you? In other words - who has the rights to that info should it be needed (let's say) in a trial. As computers store data about the vehicles performance they are beginning to behave like FDR's (flight data recorders). Coupled with onboard comm systems that data could be transmitted to someone without your knowledge.

Or, while you're recovering in the hospital, someone is at the wrecking yard downloading your car's memory - without consideration to who has rights to that info. That is the fear I guess.

If you get one of those little gadgets from Geico that plugs into the OBD-2 port it will certainly be spying on you!
