So I pulled the trigger on ordering all of my LEDs for the dash lights...
Well, I get off work on Friday night and was excited to get home and rip the dash apart to install the new lights. The tear down of the dash was not an issue at all as I have installed new stereo, amps, speakers...etc several times. So I get the climate control bulbs out and go to fit the new #74 bulb in...and it DOESN'T FIT!!
It was the right size base...but it was too damn thick around the body of it! So in my 2000 SR5, I have 2 spots in the climate control for new lights, and only the one to the top right did not fit, the one in the center or left did fit. Well of course I am not only going to leave one new LED in and still have the ugly green, so I pulled it out and put that ish back together. Well then I go to the key ring, pull the whole thing apart just to find the same damn issue! At this point I am getting pretty upset...I have probably spent 2-3 hours at this point just F'ing around trying to get the climate control bulb to fit. Well I had no luck with the key ring as the body of the new LED was just too thick. So I then move over to the glove box...and the light has some stupid grill thing over it that I could not figure out how to open...so I ended up breaking that thing, but the LED doesn't fit there either!!! So... I didn't even want to pull my dash apart to work on the gauges because like I said, I dont want half nre LEDs and half still green. Sooooo needless to say I was pretty upset that I wasted my money on LEDs that dont fit, and wasted my time trying to get the things to fit.
I did however swap the corners, map, dome, and license plate light to the new LEDs so it was completely a bust. But I was so looking forward to the new look.
I bought the SuperStar #74 from autolumination. Has anyone else this fitment issue?
What are the 74 bulbs other people have tried? I still really want to do the upgrade...but I am going to hold off until someone knows a bulb that for sure fits.
Automlumination shows a #74 from samsung that looks like it might be a little more narrow around the body, or there is a no name brand that looks like it might also work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys
