My Runner was misdirected by a Ferry Dock hand in into a pole. Never saw it. Here's the damage....I was pissed.State Patrol Officer said "it happens". He says drivers follow the car in front of them and hit the pole.... I'm ok bump on the head a couple sore places.

Regarding the dock hand, is his employer liable for damages to vehicles while directing vehicles onto the ferry? I also wonder if you had a dash cam installed...you could show how the dock hand's actions led to an accident.

I'm going to be finding that out. Focus this morning will be doctor's appointment as I got a bang on the head and my right hand is swollen. Other than that I'm ok. Several ferry workers approached me and told me that the (and get this) the telephone poll in the middle of the lot is owned by the State of Washington. Sounds as if an attorney might get involved. The guys also told me that this hitting of the pole "happens". They most surely will have a video of the lot so well get a copy of that. If I screwed up so be it, if not those upgrades which were mentioned may come into play.

The bull bar and the lights will obviously have to be replaced or reattached. I could add some more lights which will always help with the random telephone poll. :flamethrwoer2::gun6:

From my personal experiences if someone directs you while you are driving it falls under your fault. They will say if it was crowded or congestion you should have someone spot you. This last statement is a tricky because he directed you. Like [MENTION=76562]Anonymous4Runner[/MENTION] had it right. This is the bullet in the gun and will sway it in your favor. When you see the body shop have them DIAGNOSE and LOOK at everything. Make sure You get every little thing added up just encase you use it against your own insurance. I've done this and just push the body shop to add everything to extra help me when I had to pay the 500.00 out of my pocket.

Very unfortunately this happened and I wish you the best of luck. Black Friday is RIGHT around the corner. A few extra dollars now will save you later.

Personal experience take care of your body, completely and listen to it. I've done this and it will save you in the long run. I wish you the best and PLEASE take it easy. I hate seeing people in my conditions of all I'm going through now.. <3

Body, frame (un-likely but still check), Radiator, Radiator Reservoir, everything inside the engine compartment, Front grill, lights (fog/regular)bull bar (tweaked?), Skid plates under neath..All I can think of right now.

Not sure what kind of a body shop you're taking it in but I strongly recommend a certified Toyota dealership that also have a collision center. As soon the center finds out it's going to be covered by insurance, you can bet your bottom dollar they will do a thorough inspection of your 4Runner in its entirety and maximize the payout owed by insurance. Insurance money is like gold to body shops...especially Toyota-certified ones.

Keep us updated on your repair invoice - I can only imagine it will cost at least 5k based on damages

As soon the center finds out it's going to be covered by insurance, you can bet your bottom dollar they will do a thorough inspection of your 4Runner in its entirety and maximize the payout owed by insurance. Insurance money is like gold to body shops...especially Toyota-certified ones.

All of you are great. thanks. It is insurance and I will verbatim say what you suggested here. The thing about the being directed is that the pole in question has been hit many times so it's not like it was a unique event. So much so that the employee told me the pole is owned by the State of Wa not the Ferry. This tells me quite a bit. Going over for X-ray of right hand. I guess my slow speed is the reasons the air bag did not deploy. Thats a blessing but I want that circuit checked as well. Bull bar looks ok. lights will be checked and reattached to a new bumper clearly and existing circuit and I may add 2 more lights. Having to miss 4 days or more of work and do physical therapy for neck back and hand. Don't have an attorney but may need one due to the State/Ferry issue.

I sincerely appreciate your suggestions. Thanks boys and girls. The Runner and I have travelled the North American continent in Winter in real dangerous conditions and I run into a flipping pole......:doh:

The body shop was recommended by the Toyota dealer here in Everett Wa. The dealer does not have one. Close as I could get.

Going to upgrade the PIAA to 550 and fog lamps to HID in the process. They have not yet gotten the hood up so estimate may increase. So far it's 50/50 parts and labor.

btw the labor cost is $54/hr here in Washington.

It took me a long time to get out of So Cal after going there from Alaska. Found the dream girl, got married and finally relocated near the Canadian Border....

Yep. Lived in the PNW for 16 years. Rains a bit too much for me. Parents are still up there. But plan to do an offroad trip up to Alaska next year when I quit my job and find a place to relocate. Would love to go back to CO unfortunately the Denver area is slowly turning into CA. And when Google builds a Boulder complex...oh boy. Vermont sounds nice right now.

Watch out for those penis' in the sky up there at Whidbey! Can't believe those guys did that. Funny...but why?

Southern Co (Durango) would be a choice I think. Never been to Vermont. Thinking of buying a second place here right on the Canadian Border for remote.
