So I have had a metallic sound coming from the transmission in my 87 4runner, thought it might be the throw out bearing going bad so me and my buddy replaced the whole clutch got everything back together and I still have the noise. My buddy says there was a little play on the transmission input shaft but wasn't sure on how much it would make a difference. He also thought that the part the throw out bearing goes on was kind of loose and thought that might be it. The transmission does have around 209,000 miles so its probably time for a rebuild but any helpful thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

i don't like anything about what goes on inside of a transmission. kill it with fire!:gun4:

lol, i would rebuild it. (well, I wouldn't. I would bring it to a trans guy. because F transmissions.)

If there's play at the input shaft there's likely to be more problems inside.
209K is a good amount of mileage, it may be time for a rebuild or a good used trans.

I would rather rebuild my own than buy one just cause you never know when buying used. Any advice on rebuild kits I have looked them up on eBay going for around 170-200 I know marlin has a good one but I'm kinda on a budget but I also know you get what you pay for.

Marlin crawler sells them, I would be a bit concerned using an ebay kit. I'd just get the marlin kit, it will be more expensive but also adds piece of mind.
