it won't start

I have a 1993 2.8l diesel and when I tried to start it today it would not start.....it did not crank over it just gave me a screeching sound. I installed a new battery and when I tried again I got the same result......no start and lots of screeching.......any ideas as to the problem??

We don't have diesels here in the US, so you may not get alot of response.

Maybe a stripped starter or flywheel?

X2 sounds like flywheel and or starter
