Here are my takeaway's from this article:

1) Jalopnik sucks. They rely on clickbait, trendy titles and links to other car sites to bring in viewers. And I'm not just saying that because they gave a mediocre review of a car I own; I used to somewhat like Jalopnik's articles and videos (especially the Truck Yeah section). But quality has been on the decline as of late, too much opinion, and not enough credibility and hands on experience among the "expert" authors.

2) My 4runner's crappy interior must be the exception to the norm, because it hasn't "melted" yet despite sitting outside 24/7.

3) I guess not having an Audi-level of interior quality and comfort means your interior sucks nowadays? Seriously, where the freak is all this criticism of the 4unner's interior coming from? This is not the first time I've heard this from a car reviewer. It's nothing special but it's certainly not bad; and this is a freaking 4runner, not a BMW or Mercedes luxury crossover we are talking about here, so maybe some expectation management is in order.

This is the kind of gibberish you hear from every high schooler who also knows nothing about cars but feels entitled to share their off-base opinion.

Every 'article' ends with the reader saying, "cool story about your friends car, bro."

It's a non-offroad/suv person's take on 4runners. I think there's a fair point about the interiors going backward in some respects. If you found a brand new 1996 and put it next to a 2016 you'd find the older one has quite a few things that are missing from the 2016. Like rear climate control for example. But much is exactly the same. I think they still use the same cruise control, wiper, and headlight levers. The '96 was full of soft touch plastics where the '16 has hard plastic. The '96 had better power to weight at 2000rpms than the '16 and a higher tow rating.

For daily driving I'm happy with my '15 over the '96 I replaced. I wouldn't trade back. Just recognizing that the older 4runenrs really were fantastic vehicles. Mine went to the end of the earth and back without a hiccup.

It was likely an attempt at hyperbole more than anything else, but I doubt many readers, even those who dislike or are neutral on the 4runner, found it funny.

I've driven the 3rd and 4th gen 4runners. The 5th gen's interior, while spartan and basic, is a step up from previous 4runners. But if you're focused on what type of material the dashboard is made of, 4runners and SUV's/trucks in general aren't the market you should be looking at.

I just finished driving my 4runner on a 600 mile round trip. Seats and positioning, ergonomics of the steering wheel and controls, A/C, cabin noise, everything was just fine and I didn't feel worn out or sick of driving. Was it as comfortable or refined as my family's Lexus RX350? No, but so what. That's a luxury crossover designed for commuting. The 4runner is a BOF SUV designed for utility.

The last thing Toyota needs to do is add to the 4runner's MSRP by putting "nicer" materials into the dashboard and interior. If you want a Toyota with nicer interior quality, go buy a lexus.

its funny that he bashes the interior quality of the 5th gen, after trading my 2012 F150 for my trail edition the first thing i liked more was how when i knocked on the dash it was solid. my ford FX4s dash felt like it could be broken if i tossed a baseball cap on to it too hard. oh well I'm happy with my purchase lol:flipoff:

Car and Driver stated some of the same things.... The 4Runner is a truck and the last thing I want is more interior foo foo that adds more weight and can break...
