Janurary 2012 Toyota sales

I thought this was interesting. Toyota Motor Sales Reports Increase in January 2012 Sales -- TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- I did not realize 4runners were such a small part of Toyota sales compared to say a Camry. I am surprised they even still make Lexus GX460 with only 878 sales a month. Kind of makes me think there will not be a 5th gen refresh soon as the 4runner is not Toyotas prioity especially with rising fuel prices.

Chrysler Group LLC Reports January 2012 U.S. Sales Increased 44 Percent;... -- AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Grand Cherokee sales are about 3 times more than 4runners. 4runner 2,919, Grand Cherokee 10,683 for Janurary 2012. Not that I would but a Grand Cherokee but that is a big difference.

Please don't start that rumor lol. Any global sales organization and auto sales in particular is extremely convoluted. Instead of models you really have to think about platforms and common assemblies and parts and where they go, what exchange rates are, where they are manufactured, what costs of manufacturing are and a million other tangibles. At the end, even though a product might not sell many on one part of the world sub assemblies and common parts might make that profitable overall. Also, what is it worth advertising wise to have a vehicle as capable as the 4Runner? What is it worth to have a test bed for product? What are the analysts seeing 4-5 years down the road? It gets complicated fast. Actually, 3000/month is not bad. Look at other manufacturers and see their breakdown by model.

Looking at sales figures for specific models is interesting but not very informative as far as knowing the bigger picture. I just take them with a grain of salt.
