Jaos light question

hey team
ive tried doing some searches however still have a few questions.
ive in stalled my jaos brush guard and hid lights however the hid should be left on for a min of 5 min to prevent damage sooooo!
i was thinking of getting some aux lighting for the short trips and for rough snow storms

my question is to any on ewith the jaos offroad lights OR any of u experts with aux lighting !
can the aux lights be on with out the head lights?
also
jaos lights.....are they really way too bright for driving on streets?
would being aimed low help?
ANY SUGG would be great (different products) or tips

You can definitely wire auxilliary lights to come on independent of your other lights. I wired mine to come on only when the running lights are on so they'll go off automatically with two clicks of the remote (prevents me from leaving them on accidentally and draining my batter).

My 55Watt bulbs in my Hella 500s are plenty bright and they are legal for on road driving. They sell the upgraded 100Watt bulb but I don't think it is legal to drive on the road with them on. They mention that it is for "offroad" purposes only. With that being said, I hear the JAOS lights are super bright so I don't think they'd be legal for on road driving. Check with your local state laws.

People on the board have different brands with PIAA being pretty popular. I went the cheaper route and bought some Hellas (About $70).

I recently bought and installed the JAOS Challenger lights. See my post "Finally, some pics" for some images. The installation was fairly easy, even with the instructions in Japanese (the diagram was easy to follow). The lights are controlled by a little wireless transmitter that I installed next to the row of switches to the left of the steering wheel and the little remote blends right in with the switches (almost the same size and color). They were kinda expensive, but that little remote is pretty sweet. I mounted the little receiver box on top of the fuse box. Overall, the installation was easy since the wiring loom is made for the 4Runner. The lights have a high/low setting and the bulbs are yellowish (JDM bulbs). The work independently of the headlight settings, i.e., I can have them (JAOS) on either high beam or low, and the headlights can be on either high beam or low, so I've got 4 combos of lights. They're wired into the headlight wire behind the driver's light, so they turn off when the headlights go off (you can't leave them on by accident--however, they can't be turned on without the headlights being on, but I don't know why anybody would want that. I can even have the factory fogs (which aren't the most effective things) with my yellow Luminics bulbs on if the headlights are on low beam--that way, the headlights are on low, the fogs are on, and the JAOSs can be on either high or low beam. With the JAOSs on high beam + the headlights on high beam, it's pretty damned bright. I can drive with the JAOSs on low beam and sometimes get flashed. Definitely can't drive with them on high beam if there's any traffic. The yellow color is very effective here with the snow, much more so than white or especially blue light (I bought some 7000K bulbs for the headlights and the output was reduced quite a bit and didn't illuminate the snow worth a crap, so I went back to my SilverStars). The yellowish tint really helps when the road is snowy.

With the JAOS lights aimed correctly, the low beam setting acts like a super fog light. Then when you switch to the high mode, they act like driving lights.

schwalmy, It's illegal in Ontario to drive with more then 4 headlights on at the same time. Cops will count as a headlight anything brighter then side marker. 4Runner has two different lights for low and high beams, that's why when you switching from low to high beams, your fog are going off. In plain English this means you're allowed to have only 4bulbs on when driving on the road. You can have as many lights as you want if they are not ON on the streets. If you remember my vehicle, I've 4 aux lights on my grille guard, and I wasn't stop for a long time. But I know what I'm doing and never use more then one set to make sure I have not more then 4 lights on at the same time. JAOS light are good, but if the have and I
