JBL Stereo - Door rattle due to bass

Hi there-

Long time, first time...more or less. I love my 2010 Limited w/ the JBL stereo. However, in the past 10 days, I've noticed that the passenger door has developed an audible rattle/vibration whenever there is a decent amount of bass on the stereo. Other potentially useful stuff:

-49k miles
-Haven't messed with the equilizer, ever, but I do like loud music now and again
-The speaker seems fine - no distortion whatsoever
-The rattle/vibration is coming from the rear portion of the plastic liner, under the armrest, on the interior of the front seat passenger door
-When I apply very light pressure to the plastic, the rattle/vibration goes away

So, question for the many experts on this forum- any idea how i can fix this? I'd love to avoid peeling off the door panel, but fear that might be required? If so, what is the risk in that?

Turning down the music isn't an option

I had the same problem with the stock speakers, had an upgraded system installed (dynamatted doors and all) and still have the issue. It's just in the passenger door, and really annoying. I'm planning to get it back over to the shop that did the install so they can take a look, but to answer your question - I'm pretty sure you're going to have to peel the door panel.

Door removal tutorial. It's very detailed and accurate - I was able to follow it easily and can now dismantle and re-assemble my door in a matter of minutes.

Same Problem! If I apply moderate pressure to the plastic, the rattle/vibration goes away on mine too. I noticed that if i wedge something between the passenger seat and the door, like a towel, the noise stops.

Going to the dealer Friday, but $50 says they make it worse without a technical service bulletin.

If you get this figured out, please let me know. I can't stand it.

Had the same problem in the pass. door. I opened the lower portion lf the door trim, and put 3 shop rags folded in thick squares and held them with tape to the inside of the trim. Problem solved since last 4 months. If this happens to fail I'll remove the trim and place various dampeners in there.

Looks like I have it too when the volume is 30+ and it's a really bassy song on BPM or something. A bit disappointed but it is infrequent. Will take the comments above into consideration and try a fix. I'll have the dealer take a look first when I have my first oil change at 8,000km (just rolled over 1,000km).

Holy Crap! I have the same issue too!!! I just bought my 2011 LE with 13,711 miles and my passenger door vibrates like everyone has mentioned. Slight pressure to the door plastic and it goes away!!! I was going to post about this but someone beat me to it! I hope there is a TSB on it soon as I will have to pay a visit to the dealer to figure out the issue.

My 2010 LE has the same issue - I thought the passenger door speaker was blown but it's just the rattle when the volume is high. Any other suggestions out there? mugoo - what did the dealer do for you?

No issues here at 45k miles. I regularly jam the bass, too.

I replaced all my speakers, added dual 12" subs, and amps. Had rattles after at high volumes. Used small amounts of rattletrap at contact points and that did the trick. Now the only thing that makes unwanted noise in the T4R is my wife.

Nah, the foreman took a look, couldn't diagnose it and then went to lunch. They asked me to wait for him to come back from lunch and go for a ride with him. I couldn't wait around. I was at the dealer for 3 hours for a 5k mi servce and to diagnose this problem, and then the guy went to lunch. Bah.

My '12 is doing it, but in the rear passenger door. Like some of you I don't know if it's worth letting the dealer try to fix it.

MY '13 Trail just had this issue pop up today... 3100 miles and it does it with the volume at 14. I don't trust a dealer to fix this so I've gotta find a way to make it stop.

The rattle stops when I press on the area circled in red... or really anywhere close to it.
