I haven't been following your build thread...did you paint your old truck or get a new one?!

Wow, they're growing fast, great you got to get out there again! The truck still looks good even if it is the wrong color.
Thanks. It's really good to get out again. We're going with about 30 trucks to Anza Borrego this weekend on a forum trail run. The big groups make for slow progress but good times. I bet your son is huge by now. I can't believe my daughter is almost 2.
Same old girl, just some new paint. Couldn't throw her out like that! Looks better in person. See you Saturday. Did you ever change up your bumper situation?
On a side note, where do you carry extra gas? I'm thinking about throwing a can up top on the roof rack (if I paint it and put it back on before this weekend.)

Nope truck is exactly the same except for a new battery. I had no truck budget last year due to the arrival of my second son. This year however will be a little different for the ol girl.
I won't be bringing any extra gas as I get pretty good mileage, have ran a similar route last year and had plenty to spare between fill ups...the other guy with me however in a built 3rd gen barely made it to the gas station, albeit there was more dirt involved between fill ups than our route this weekend.
But if I were to bring some I would most definitely put it on the top of a rack or on the rear bumper.
How was the trail condition in Coyote Canyon?

You didn't ask but I'll throw 2 cents at you anyway.
I carry two cans up on the roof on either side of the rack and over the cross bar to distribute the weight. They are easy to fill (2 1/2 gal each for the Maze district, you may not need that much) while strapped in on the rack. To get the gas into the truck I use one of those shakey siphons with a longer tube subbed in, leaving the cans on the rack.

My neighbors from long ago were traveling in their small rv when they were rear-ended, gas cans on the back. A couple of the kids were killed, the rest of the family maimed to varying degrees. It's just one experience among a whole lot of rear-carried cans that go around without becoming fireballs.

Your two cents is always appreciated! That's a very good (albeit tragic) point. I'd never thought about rear end collisions. Thank you for sharing.
I like the siphon thingy. That's a good idea.

Thanks! I sure do like it. Yours is really nice too. I always wanted an Anthracite but my wife says no...
The run is in the socal section, we try to do a run a month, but sometimes we miss or they're up by LA. There are almost 30 rigs and you're absolutely welcome. Some people are camping in Blair Valley friday night, but then everyone is meeting right by there at S2 and the 78 at 10am on Saturday.
Saturday we're planning on doing Canyon Sin Nombre, the mud caves, diablo drop off, and then wind up in fish creek. About half the guys are then camping in Fish creek and Sunday they're going to go through Borrego springs up Coyote Canyon then to truck haven in Ocotillo Wells. Should be a good trip. I've met lots of the guys going and can't find anything bad to say about any of them.

awesome! ima try and make it. would a jk be welcome or is that frowned upon? My wife is deathly afraid of off roading and she finally agreed to go with me this saturday to superstition. hopefully she agrees to go on this run, my 1 year old son would be joining us as well.

You're jeep friend much catch singe jokes but nothing serious. They're pretty good guys who feel the important party outs to get out, have fun, and meet good people.

its okay, i went to the hospital 2 days ago cause it was really bothering me and the xrays show nothing is broken. i didnt hit at the knee i hit right below. the area is still numb. if it doesnt improve by friday ill have to go back for more studies. Ive been meaning to stop by and say thanks to who i think is your mother in law. ill be by today. The person who drives the baby blue fiat. she stopped and ran over and helped my wife lift me up.
