I see, thanks. That might be a deal breaker for me, even though that function is highly desirable. I love the thought of folding in the mirrors on long night time highway drives to improve mileage a tiny bit and get rid of the headlight glare from people behind me.

It baffles me how car company execs make decisions on what country gets what features and options... it seems to make very little sense.

Money,money,money....

Cost is the biggest issue and keeping prices in check in the US makes the difference when importing vehicles and the same goes when US autmakers import vehicles to other countires. Corvettes for instance don't have airbags and a few other safety mandated items when exported that have to be on vehicles sold here.

I'd rather have the heated mirrors vs power foldable and I am curious about the rear spoiler since I'm not a fan of how it sits away from the body and prefer the one that fits snug to the tailgate.

Very true. But it's hard not to think that demand could make some of the little things worth offering. Plus the fact that the engineering needed to convert some things to suit the US market would be very small.
The field monitor just needs a screen with fahrenhiet and calibration to suit. Not hard considering the number of US toyota vehicles that have outside temp gauges. The tooling required to manufacture the pfm is easy since it's just an exact opposite of whats already designed. The swing out tire carrier is a simply an option like any other feature.
Of course, I'm no marketing expert and I'm sure that Toyota did their research properly, it's just a shame it didn't work out as some of us would have prefered.

Just an update. I swapped the driver's side mirror mount over to a 96-98 USDM mirror mount and the JDM outer/upper half swaps right over with no changes and now has the proper field of vision!

So, anyone that tries this needs to use 96-98 mirror mounts if you want to leave your visibility unaffected.

The mirror is when you back into/parralel park you can back up to the last inch.

Funny story, now that I have 265/75/16's on all 5 wheels and a 1.25" wheel spacer for the spare, the lower edge of the spare tire will touch whatever's behind me before I can see it in the mirror when parallel parking, making it completely useless. Oh well.

Hey coinball! Had a quick question about this mod. I am in the process of obtaining some PFMs for my own project and wanted to ask for your assistance.

Being you have done this already, is the picture below the correct wiring for PFMs? I know there are the 3 pin mirrors and 5 pin mirrors. Thanks!

Holy dead thread batman! I got ahold of some more JDM tyte-ness, but I haven't spent any time trying to get them installed.

What exactly is the next project you ask...Reclining rear seats.

Apparently, everywhere except the USDM market, the 4Runner had reclining rear seats. I picked up these latches from IanB a long time ago and quickly realized that the latches weren't a direct swap. So I put them back in the box and hadn't done anything with them until today. I got them back out and started doing some initial measurements to figure out what I'll need to get them swapped.

I need to find a set of trashed rear seats so I can modify the frames without destroying my original ones...anyone in or near Raleigh have a set of beat rear seats they want to give away or sell for cheap?

This threads probably long dead but if anyone’s still active...

I too have a set of these JDM mirrors. The mirrors each have the line harness and I have the retract switch with its harness.
My truck is a 99

Would you mind giving me some instructions on how to wire these up? What will the 5 pin mirror harnesses be plugged into?
